Re: Show your sketching!
Mm, that's pretty neat, Spenner. Those black tendril things have a lot of dimensionality. Took me a while to notice that the circles around the guy at the bottom match the core of the head, which is cool.
Finally going to post a drawing in here now ... I'm such a boring person, that this is the most action I've drawn in a pose in like four years. ... Like, I'm hardly even trying to become a better artist anymore. Haven't been going to school for it. Anyway ... Two of my friends I showed this to already, they thought that was a mechanical arm. So just in case you can't tell, he's holding a staff. |

Re: Show your sketching!
Here's are a few renders of a little monster model I made for a game project for school I'm working on. Because this is a small scale game project I don't have time to model anything too advanced so I kept the monster design pretty simple (but hopefully effective for the kind of game we're making).
rigged to be able to move the eye and eyelids as well: Not what I aspire to do, 3D work. Still plan on going for concept artist but I've been learning quite a bit from 3D modelling, sculpting and animating etc. 3D modelling/animating is pretty fun. :J edit: also my first time modelling something organic and also my first time using zbrush to sculpt a normal map to be projected on a low poly model. ..Also my first time using zbrush lolol

Re: Show your sketching!
It reminds me of those little Cthulhu eyes from Terraria, if you know what I'm talking about, very cool.

Re: Show your sketching!
Haha yeah, I know which ones you mean. I also remember Eye of C'thulu's pupil transformed into a mouth with teeth as well lmao. I didn't even use that as reference though, I made a few concepts that had to do a lot with the eye as central piece of the monster and this came out as best-ish for the time we have to make the assets. I had some cooler designs but those were not feasible in the time we have (at least not for the alpha we have to show tomorrow).
edit: here are some of the concept designs for the eyemonster as well. You can probably tell it's an adjusted version of the monster in the top left. Didn't have the time or the skill to do it with such extras and I adjusted it to float horizontally instead of vertically: edit2: have a gif of the idle animation

looks very impressive, tristan, esp. since you dont have too much 3d experience. also really digging your designs, noname -- although they seem a bit too busy imo.

Re: Show your sketching!
Today I drew up a placeholder for my new musical project's website. I'm putting together a bluegrass band that sings famous rap songs in the style of bluegrass. We are Regis and the Philbins, and oh man was that fun to draw. I'm gonna use the doodle sans writing as a flier once we're ready for shows.

My eyes really want there to be something in those ears.
That's pretty much all I can say about that since I wouldn't know how to critique cartoon drawing. It's cool though, I'm interested to hear this bluegrass rap. |

Re: Show your sketching!
I'd shrink those badboys down before posting them simply because at that size a lot of the details are too spread out to be defined very well : <
ps here's a helmet design I did really quickly, I am leaving the country soon but i needed to show this guy SOMEthing so idunno how this will go.

Re: Show your sketching!
I drew this baneling a few months back. I sadly got some layers in the wrong order when I uploaded it, original file is lost forever. this is the reason it looks a bit off on some spots. I have actually gotten a bit better and am still learning. I won't post more recent art since most of it involves semi nudeness and I am not sure if that is allowed.
And a rose I drew. I have to admit, I had to use a photo reference to get this far. I need to learn to draw these things out of my head.

Re: Show your sketching!
There is no shame in using reference. Even the pros do it.
In fact, it's encouraged use reference because how can you draw something realistic without knowing what it (or its components) is supposed to look like? that said, look at your reference more because I can tell it's flawed. Edge control, shape definition and color are very poor.

I'm pretty sure artistic nudity is OK as long as you spoiler it and add a NSF warning

As for the edges, I have no idea how I should do this. I use painttool sai for this and I can't figure how to get layer masks going. so I had to draw everything by hand. the reason the edges are choppy is because the linework basicly covered everything up untill this moment. You're right on all levels though I apreciate the feedback, thanks. Maybe someday I can become a good respected artist .

Re: Show your sketching!
You should learn to control your edges without masks first, masking is only a tool that speeds up the process but you should be able to do it freehand. Make sure you use a hard brush for edge control or your edges will end up fuzzy like they are now.
