Now Sign Language is Offensive?

Some school board in the US got a 3-year old deaf kid in trouble for spelling out his name with hand gestures (it looked like a gun). An exception should've been made for this kid.

If that's how the deaf boy spells his name, then the school is basically prohibiting him from saying his name - for the sake of political correctness and "potentially" offending people (who would really).

Why would something like this even be an issue?

What kind of people would you have to be to spark controversy over a 3 year old deaf boy using sign language to use his name? His name isn't offensive, and it really shouldn't matter what his hand gestures look like to convey it. He's not trying to make a weapon, he's trying to tell others his name. I highly doubt that any of the children there could have even made the connection from his gesture that "looks like a weapon" to be one anyway (and if they did, it still wouldn't have been a real problem).
