yeah, I meant to ask about that, if they're on a public site or part of muzie, is it okay to just get packs up at that point?

As long as you post on the muzie account BBS that you redistributed the songs on this thread, and as long as you have written permission from the artist (not necessary mail, could be on the site itself) to do so.

hmm okay, I'll try to get some stuff put together this weekend (I'd do it tomorrow, but I have an insane amount of work to do).

Also stereo-chip / invaderP told me the next planned song release is sometime next month. Can't wait for that :X

Edit:: Just found a huge trance collection at NicoNico:

http://www.nicovideo.jp/watch/sm3145508

some of these are probably remixes of anime / hgame ops, but I'll see if there's any original works.

Doesn't the remixer author have the right to distributed the remixed version of an original song by another author? You can get through a lot of customs if you do this =P

DJ Sharpnel is an example of an artist who publicizes anime remixes without the anime company's permission. It hangs around the borderline of legality.

This is a huge topic. The legalities behind the existence of doujins, remixes, etc. are very controversial. As you all know, people make money off of selling doujins, which are fanfic remixes of another anime. Just like torrent and fansubbing redistribution, anime companies follow the policy of salutary neglect. Anime companies have the right to sue people like DJ Sharpnel, doujin writers, and fansubbing communities, but they choose not to, because the financial deficit would be larger than the ethical benefits gained from justifying the misuse of the original anime.

Note: Here's some areas that fall under this category of violation.
Stepmania: redistribution of anime OPs/EDs via stepfiles.
Torrent/Limewire: redistribution of anime episodes and manga with the misconceptional excuse of fansubbing, and raw.
Online manga uploads: redistribution of manga with the misconceptional excuse of fansubbing, and raw.
Doujinshis: the use of pre-existing anime characters in another authors manga without the original company's permission. selling the doujin makes it worse.
Remixes: anime song remixes and related products ARE illegal. most people think it's not because many people make them, but it is in fact illegal, and can be sued by the company with legitimate charges. be glad that they follow a policy of salutary neglect.
Anime Music Videos: yes, this is also illegal. once again, salutary neglect. be happy.

In other words, most remixers don't have the right to remix anime songs. Most people make remixes either because they don't know it's illegal, or because there's a very low chance that they will get caught.

Some companies that have become serious about this issue:
Visual Arts
Key
Kyoto Animations (I got sued by these 3 before)

Wow. Were you able to settle the problem without having to pay a fine of some sort?

I thought remixes were ok because there's something (I don't remember what it is exactly) that makes it completely ok for video game remixes to be made without getting permission from the original artist, so I thought there would be something similar for other music remixes.

Haha, I had trouble. Mainly from downloading Air, Kanon, and CLANNAD (which was ongoing at the time). I was let off with a warning-like statement, much like other torrent abusers do.

Video game companies apparently don't mind at all.
Anime companies care.

Nobuo Uematsu once stated that he loves seeing the expression of affection towards his games from the remixes of major orchestral pieces from Final Fantasy. (I forget where I read this...)

I LOL'd at Key. The only good anime they made was Kanon, CLANNAD and AIR both sucks badly with no storyline.

I believe there was also another copyright law which states that if you use a copyrighted clip of media, if its under 30 seconds, its legal. See the legitimacy of that, I suppose this is why Apple was allowed to use "Music Is My Boyfriend" for the Ipod Touch commercial.

This proves that anime love is highly subjective

Yes, and I think some MAD / AMV could fall under the parody umbrella of legality.

403

Got 403's MP3 pack for Spitfire to work with, just waiting for him to scrape and upload. All permission conditions of handle name and page links are met (since I'll be posting it to the thread with his handle name and zip file), and I did a muzie BBS notification. Now to wait.

Edit: MP3 pack: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=TR3S36SS

Yuuyu

I noticed in the list of webclap responses that someone requested an email conversation for song usage, and Yuuyu obliged, so I'm sending a small one to see if I can get the same thing going. I'll post with more details as they come (those handclap pictures are freaking awesome too).

OH
MY

Incoming

Onoken

(sorry, his site forbids image copying, best I could do)

homepage: http://www.axsword.com

.sound has zip files with some demo cuts and some full versions
that intro image is HAWT

blog: http://axsword.sblo.jp/

mp3 pack download:

None yet

CD info:

As usual, toranoana takes the cake for doujin CDs Someone also mentioned that he sells songs on iTunes Japan. His latest WinterMix album has 2 versions, red and blue version (that's just awesome).

http://www.toranoana.jp/mailorder/ci...981/index.html

Videos: http://www.nicovideo.jp/search/Onoken

I think some of these aren't actually Onoken, so make sure Onoken is in the title.

Regarding Permission

I can't copy and paste the Japanese conditions (flash site :S). I plan to send an email out requesting MP3 pack permissions and game usage permissions for the following songs:

felys -longmix-
Jazzy Hiphop: emy
Drum'n Core: P8107

Update: I have contacted Onoken regarding the usage of the above songs, both in game and MP3 pack, and await his response.

Profile:

This guy is a big mac user, and like using notebooks a lot. He claims that they give him the freedom to take his environment anywhere he wants to. Also, like everyone else in the world, he likes cute cats

Most recent work: WinterMix Vol.5

Anyone consider making a classical mp3 pack?
That'd be epic.

I have a complete Yuuyu pack, both mp3 and bms. All I need is a mp3 to wav converter. Anyone know a good one?

An ogg to wav converter would be nice too.

OH SH*T

Felys long mix? Thats just inconceivably sexy.

Anyhow, I found some random links of artists on myspace.

MinamotoYa : http://www.myspace.com/minamotrance
SharpnelSound (DJ Sharpnel) : http://www.myspace.com/sharpnelsoundtokyo
REDALiCE : http://www.myspace.com/redalicejp

I was like O___O when I saw Jea and Lemmy's picture, Sharpnel, on their myspace page.
By the way, can someone tell me the other 2 of Minamotoya's CDs? besides lunatic phaser, trancecore, and trancecore Duo.

EDIT:

I found his discography.
http://translate.google.ca/translate...XX260%26sa%3DG

Anyhow, you might want to use that site to find other artists too.

slurp:

dobuusagi (どぶウサギ)

homepage: http://www.dobuusagi.com/

mp3 pack download:

None yet

CD info:

toranoana: http://www.toranoana.jp/mailorder/ci...241/index.html

Here's one of dBu's CDs. He mainly takes part in CDs of Touhou Project arrangements. If you use the search box at the top, and select 同人アイテム for the type and dBu music for the term, 4 CD's should show up with dBu's stuff.

Videos: http://www.nicovideo.jp/search/%E3%8...82%B5%E3%82%AE

There's also a guy that plays dBu's songs on guitar. Enjoy those at your leisure (there's also one of someone stepping a song on StepMania :X)

Regarding Permission

In progress right now. dBu claims copyright on the 2 original works posted on the website, but claims ZUN (Touhou Project creator) owns copyright on the Touhou arrangements, so that probably won't happen :S

Profile:

Not much on dBu's profile. Best I can tell at this point is that dBu is a big fan of Touhou Project music, and that his site dBu Music is a song distribution site.

Most recent work: "Floatia", "幻想音楽祭~Phantom Concert", "夜奏幻樂団", "Mirage" all released in summer 2007 it seems
