Not dying /= not suffering.
Imagine how much we suffer when they die. Now imagine how much a dog would suffer having to watch numerous owners die. There's a reason some people never get another pet

Dogs don’t have long term memory dude, they’d forget about their previous owner within a week or two. The only things they have the capability to remember over long periods of time are smells

If dogs could forget that easily, then I don't think our previous dog would've been such a sweetheart...

If humans could make dogs immortal, should we?
Absolutely they should! Genetic engineering is one of the coolest things earthlings can accomplish. A philosopher's stone like that is a different ballgame than traditional selective breeding for desired traits, but with an open mind and some magical thinking, I believe it's possible. The immortality would probably utilize cybernetics and biotechnology. It's interesting to note that natural selection has not favored deformities, but if a reasoning mind uses unnatural selection, we could be breeding animals or even, egad, humans, with 6 arms, 4 legs, 2 heads and other possibilities. In the distant future there could be people with perfectly formed additional limbs like Giro from Mortal Kombat.

Watching your pet die might not be pleasant but guess what, dying is part of the package. Sometimes you gotta be challenged by negative experiences to learn how to deal with them. Dogs (and pets in general) already live far more than they used to thanks to specific foods, vet checks, lesser exposition to parasites and diseases.
If a dog that lives as long as us is created it means we have the technology to postpone human decay as well, which is a much bigger thing. Life extension is not wrong per se, especially in a pet, however it would bring complications that would need to be addressed.

I say that with sincerity because I made a post this morning in hopes she actually wanted change.
But the post in question was before she made the thread wanting to change, so... |

Maybe she just doesn't know what terminally sick people go through. My family had to go through it multiple times, and one of 'em was not pet related.

I liked my first dog. An Australia Shepard. He fur was cinnamon color so we named him Cinnamon. Very nice dog. Was great around kids. Died of a tumor 15 years ago.

As in, I tend to see brighter sides and redemption rather than going straight to lost cause.
All ya need to look at as a perfect example is Adam from that TWG! I've gave so many chances with that player before I too decided to do the one thing I never do. Tell them to flock off and get off the website. |
