Re: Username Changes
I still find this whole thing troubling. Why no official word from Prawn or Spitfire?
If Spitfire got a name change the way he did as a special treatment unavailable to us mortals, fine by me (still salty he would choose anything else than spitfire, but whatever, to each his own). If however Max is actively working on something, some details would be appreciated: how would this be done? I'm starting to think OWA made it up in his post and that there really was no plan to implement this to begin with. Confirmation would be nice, though. |

Re: Username Changes
I didn't even see this thread until now so sorry for a late reply. I only asked Prawn to change my username as a courtesy cause my username has been a thorn in my eye for years now. I don't know what Prawn's plans on managing username changes are but I can confirm that what OWA said is true. Prawn told me he is keeping these changes in a script so that one day he can let anyone change their name. I'll let Prawn know about this thread too so he can share his thoughts on this as well.
Haha, even if I could've gotten the username Spitfire (which is already taken iirc), I want nothing to do with the name anymore. Like I said, it's been a thorn in my eye for the past couple of years.

Re: Username Changes
Maybe he's still working out the logistics of this. I have no insider knowledge about any of this so yeah.

Re: Username Changes
Sorry for the 5 page delay in posting, I've been feeling really burned out of FFR recently. Velocity has been helping me compile a script that searches and updates the database for all occurrences of a username. We're refining that list now, and have it narrowed down to about 70 tables. _.Spitfire._ was a good account to test this on, because his username would be on every table we want to change, and he wasn't afraid if his account got bricked as a result. I want to make sure automating username changes is possible and safe before making plans for a username reserve policy or previous name display. If you guys have any other questions, let me know and I will respond to them when I can.

Re: Username Changes
As it currently stands, 91 tables contain usernames and about 15 are missing userid completely within the table and just have the username. The next course of action is to grab the username from the vBulletin tables as it should have been so username changes are safer and don't require so many table tables in the future.
Most of the table contain usernames are either from the pre-vBulletin days, or internal tools that are in use today. |

Re: Username Changes
Alright so this will probably never happen but out of curiosity, any updates? FAQ on the site still says username is a permanent thing and all that good stuff.
edit: I don't mean to offend anyone, I don't think the staff is being lazy or anything like that. I just can't shake the feeling that Spitfire's Nullifidian's name change was a special case and that the feature is not meant to be rolled out to ordinary users. Re: Username Changes
Unsure if it means anything but I'll add my name to the pile that would like to see something from this. I own both the account 'gold stinger' and 'Goldstinger', but if any of you have ever seen me in places other than FFR, you'd know that down on writing I'd much prefer Goldstinger.

Re: Username Changes
Since -JiZ53- and Attractive are the same person, you even already knew this. So I don't even understand what you thought you were accomplishing by carrying on for so long about demanding to know who banned Attractive.
