On a side note I got 43'01 on Ceres Escape yesterday Was rather happy with that considering I was hard pressed to ever get 40 before I practiced it for like an hour. I think the key thing I was missing was the ledge grabbing. It made getting up to the elevator so much easier to time so I don't run into like every single steam shot haha.

have fun optimizing that game, its going to take a long time, there's just too much to it, and there's some really difficult fights if you just try and rush through them

Re: The Speedrunning Thread
Tried to speedrun Super Metroid on console for the first time yesterday. Got to the zebetite skip and gave up after spending like 20 minutes without being able to do it x.x So frustrating since the end of the game was so damn close. At least I know what to practice now...Also realized that the Wii classic controller fucking SUCKS for Super Metroid. The L and R triggers are so damn hard to press down since you have to push them so far to get them to trigger.

Re: The Speedrunning Thread
understanding how zeb skip works (i.e., not how to do it, but what goes on during the trick that makes it even possible) is paramount to getting the trick consistent. You could ask in the supermetroid IRC (i've seen you there a couple times) there are tons of people who are willing to help new players.

Re: The Speedrunning Thread
I rewatched the Zoast tutorial video on how to do it and figured out exactly what I was doing wrong. After like 10 minutes of practicing I can get it pretty much every time now. Was just doing the jumps wrong -_-
Wait a second...Are you DbX? I had no idea you were on here holy crap :O

Did Super Mario Bros on NES today in 6:45, non-TAS. That's beating my old record by 22 seconds. It's not great but it's improving.

Re: The Speedrunning Thread
Patashu is quite involved to say the least^
Zeb skip still can be annoying for me but it would probably be easier if I turned space jump off or something. I actually did an Any% super metroid attempt today for the first time in weeks and quick killed Kraid . Still need to learn other bosses though cuz I died to Ridley |

Re: The Speedrunning Thread
I got pretty close to losing to Ridley during my run on Saturday. And that was with five tanks. Had like 51 left or something and a full reserve that I got just in case.
How low of an any% do you go for? I think I'm getting somewhere around 26-30% at the moment while learning stuff.

Re: The Speedrunning Thread
Double post because I fucking finally made it Reset twice because I died really early on from stupid mistakes and then again to Botwoon because I completely missed the X-Factor. In game time was 0:56 with 30% items.
EDIT: 138th place on deertier lmao. Go me.

What a joke of a category, lol.
Too bad that 17:16 is 12th place.

Sub 1:10 in Spyro: Year of the Dragon on the 100 egg category.

Re: The Speedrunning Thread
I actually dusted off my copy of Ripto's Rage the other day for old time's sake and it felt like a way easier game to beat (and 100%) compared to Spyro 1 but maybe it's because I've gotten a lot better at games, I really don't know. I'll have to play through Spyro 1 tomorrow
In general I think the movement for Spyro is fairly easy compared to most platforms but the camera can make it quite difficult sometimes...still really fun games to play casually for me hehe Last edited by Dynam0; 03-3-2014 at 12:55 AM.. |

I'm gonna be picking this game up soon. Nostalgia is a bit to blame. I'm not sure if there's a decent speedrun for this out there but I don't wanna look up any strats and just try routing it entirely myself lol. |

-Kraid E-tank -Moat missile expansion (only sometimes, usually by messing up Ocean Fly) -Super missile expansion in beginning of Meridia (slow but should make up for it in Draygon fight, still haven't really seen how this affects my time yet though) -Lower Norfair E-tank (This wastes quite some time but I'm usually low on health and more importantly power bombs from the pillar room before anyways) ^^^any alternatives for this problem dbx?? -Ridley E-tank (I really don't need to grab this one but it only wastes like 10 seconds) I also grab ice beam on my way to power bombs (no ideas on how to do red tower easily without it) and haven't learned to x-factor anyone yet. My general movement is fairly strong and imo I could sub 1 hour without grinding specific tricks or boss fights right now. I'd really like to learn this game more but without a snes controller or console it's quite hard to learn any techs that involve shoulder buttons (probably one of the reasons why I suck at Ridley and Draygon fights) :/ Last edited by Dynam0; 03-3-2014 at 01:22 AM.. |
