Bill Cosby "I'm 83 and Tired"
I've worked hard since I was 17. Except for when I was doing my National Service, I put in 50-hour weeks, and didn't call in sick in nearly 40 years. I made a reasonable salary, but I didn't inherit my job or my income, and I worked to get where I am. Given the economy, it looks as though retirement was a bad idea, and I'm tired. Very tired.
I'm tired of being told that I have to "spread the wealth" to people who don't have my work ethic. I'm tired of being told the government will take the money I earned, by force if necessary, and give it to people too lazy to earn it.
I'm tired of being told that Islam is a "Religion of Peace," when every day I can read dozens of stories of Muslim men killing their sisters, wives and daughters for their family "honor"; of Muslims rioting over some slight offense; Muslims murdering Christian and Jews because they aren't "believers"; Muslims burning schools for girls; Muslims stoning teenage rape victims to death for "adultery"; Muslims mutilating the genitals of little girls; all in the name of Allah, because the Qur'an and Shari'a law tells them to.
I'm tired of being told that out of "tolerance for other cultures" we must let Saudi Arabia and other Arab countries use our oil money to fund mosques and Madrasa Islamic schools to preach hate in Australia , New Zealand , UK, America and Canada , while no one from these countries are allowed to fund a church, synagogue or religious school in Saudi Arabia or any other Arab country to teach love and tolerance..
I'm tired of being told I must lower my living standard to fight global warming, which no one is allowed to debate.
I'm tired of being told that drug addicts have a disease, and I must help support and treat them, and pay for the damage they do. Did a giant germ rush out of a dark alley, grab them, and stuff white powder up their noses or stick a needle in their arm while they tried to fight it off?
I'm tired of hearing wealthy athletes, entertainers and politicians of all parties talking about innocent mistakes, stupid mistakes or youthful mistakes, when we all know they think their only mistake was getting caught. I'm tired of people with a sense of entitlement, rich or poor.
I'm really tired of people who don't take responsibility for their lives and actions. I'm tired of hearing them blame the government, or discrimination or big-whatever for their problems.
I'm also tired and fed up with seeing young men and women in their teens and early 20's be-deck themselves in tattoos and face studs, thereby making themselves unemployable and claiming money from the Government.
Yes, I'm damn tired. But I'm also glad to be 83.. Because, mostly, I'm not going to have to see the world these people are making. I'm just sorry for my granddaughter and their children. Thank God I'm on the way out and not on the way in. There is no way this will be widely publicized, unless each of us sends it on! This is your chance to make a difference.
“I’m 83 and I'm tired. If you don't agree you are part of the problem!
So...many...jimmies...

the "socialism" one pisses me off so bad because that's not even close to what socialism is. I remember a girl reposting that and saying "When half of the people get the idea that they do not have to work because the other half is going to take care of them, and when the other half gets the idea that it does no good to work because somebody else is going to get what they work for, that is the beginning of the end of any nation." I just couldn't resist the urge to rant on her post.

Aren't all of these pet peeves just confirmation bias? I know it being brought up on Facebook is a big pet peeve because it shows that people would rather accept a cozy lie than question themselves, but does it happen THAT often?

For a personal one, I remember my Mom forwarding an image that said guns and the bible should be the two things added to children's curriculum. Yeah no.

re order of operations, implied multiplication, etc: people will NEVER have a standardised order of operations beyond the well recognised pemdas (u.s.a.) / bodmas (britain) acronyms, owing to pure laziness when writing maths expressions, so there's no real point in debating. this includes implied multiplication. for instance, go to google, and wolfram alpha, and type

y = ln 3/x

the two of them parse it differently, based on someone's whim who decided to put the order of operations into the calculator in the first place.

Yeah that's part of the issue -- IIRC it's called "multiplication by juxaposition" where you put things together that are implicitly assumed to be one mathematical unit.

For instance if I asked you what 10/ab was, where a=2 and b=5, what would you say? Most would say 1, others might say 25. It's because normally when you see ab together like that, it's assumed to be something like (ab), so it's the same as being asked to calculate 10/(ab). But if you weren't making that assumption then it's possible you could parse it like (10/a) * b.

In other words, even though the operators are in the same order when we are looking at 10/ab and 10/a*b, we might make different assumptions about how it's computed. PEMDAS is only part of the story.

I mean math is a language in itself, and like other languages, we need to be clear if we want to avoid ambiguity and be interpreted correctly by others. You can't go wrong with parentheses.

To me implying there is one Mathematically Correct Way to parse "1+1-1" is like implying that there is one way to parse "They fed her dog meat.". Math is a type of language too, and any language written for human use can sometimes be ambiguous. I think one problem is in the way math is taught - at least in the US, through high school, the emphasis seems to be on treating math as some kind of brainless symbol-manipulation exercise where the person who can plug stuff in the best gets the best grades. I can easily see how someone could come out of that thinking that there is exactly one right answer to everything, which they can get by asking someone who is good at math, and that once they have found that answer they can immediately assume everything else is categorically wrong.

That said, I generally try to avoid math problems by anyone who uses ÷ to represent division.

Agreed -- I've always maintained that math needs to be taught in conjunction with applied problem solving, which we just don't see nowadays. Math is basically taught in a vacuum. It's not easy to retain mathematical understanding when it's not ever... well, used. "Plug and chug" is about as far as people go. There is some serious art behind math that a lot of people never get to intuit because it's taught so poorly.
