So there was this difficulty glitch in the program that had not caught my attention before.

Here's the fix....SORRY for missing that bug and making all of you who use this have to download again (and thanks to eze for finding the bug)

ugh.

could there be a way to integrate this into a stepmania skin (scrolled over as you select each song)? that might be very special : p

EDIT: OH! if there was a way to plot the data out in a circular fashion (start at the top, rotate round clockwise looping back round at the top at the end, with the densities pointing outwards from the centre) you could effectively replace the old ddr groove radar with something a bit more sensical. certain thresh-holds of NPS could also be block-colour-coded so you know intuitively how hard something is by looking at the colours (something like red [easy] to violet [hard] -> white [super hard/joke??])

We must share lots in common.

It's possible but I don't know anything relating with lua, sorry.

merry christmas....wait.

Coming soon:

NPS generator ~HIGH DEFINITIoN~

like, just look at how pixelated this is

Much better.

The other thing (not /as/ soon but still pretty soon)

A faster program that stores pack and simfile chart information with only one method call per information lookup. This includes length, style, difficulties and NPS data for said difficulties.
The current code is messy even by FFR standards.

Actually I'll probably just release both at the same time to remove the hassle of having to download both at different times.

Peak playable NPS (not counting bullshit) should be something like ~55 nps for 7-key files and ~75 NPS for 10-key files

Counting bullshit, ~75+NPS for 7-key and ~110 NPS for 10-key files

Expanding onto Arch's post a bit since I've done this research already.

Because NPS has an asymptotic relationship with BPM, it's pretty safe to say that for any particular key, the maximum possible NPS that a human can possibly achieve is between 16 and 18, which correspond to 240 and and 270 BPM 16th notes respectively, to give you an idea.

Therefore, for n being the number of keys, you can expect 16n to be a fairly hard limit for NPS for any given section of a song, but it can peak up to 18n or even 20n for about up to a second. (This is because for "hyperfast" jacks, you can time them early to give yourself more window to avoid dropping them.)

However, keep in mind this a hard physical limit. This limit determines whether or not a chart is possible. If you want it to be even reasonably playable, you're going to sit well under this. For [single] streams to be even meaningful to read and hit, they must sit under 1/2 of this NPS. Including chords is tricky, as dense chords because increasingly more difficult to hit due to naturally weak finger coordination and bracketing.

Approximate values:
Code:
n-key	Reasonable	Difficult/Mashing	Hard limit	Hard limit (<1 sec)
4	26 50 64 80
5	32 60 80 96
6	37 72 95 110
7	43 84 108 120
10	60 120 150 160
edit: whoops wrong formula, fixed
