Default Re: itt we do new reviews of old packs

FIRST HALF OF XOON 2:

(Synexi) 0x1311 - This was actually one of my more liked files out of this pack. Was straightforward and fairly enjoyable. 6.5/10

(Torsann) All About Us - Holy shit I forgot about Torsann. Also lol this file caused so much controversy with that French ***got. I forget what his name was. DJ Poopsicle or something. Oh, it was Dragoonhead. Thanks Kommi.
Oh. The file. Right.
This is a huge pile of shitty, inconsistant layering and right handed biased shit. The only thing worse was how bad this file originally was before he redid it for the 100th time. 2/10

(Trance Corn) Arabian Rave Night - I miss him. He was my favorite little Chilean.
There is some inconsistant layering at times, some of the holds are a bit long, and a couple of the patterns get a bit wonky. Not absolutely terrible though. 4/10

(Scylaxx) Aztec Templing - Layering on the jumps is inconsistant in the beginning, then it's just like HEY YOU LIKE NOTES, I'LL JUST SLAM DOWN ON 1234 AND SEE WHAT COMES UP. That's what we have Cetaka for. 2.5/10

(Buizel vs SacredInsanity) Black Apple - Assist tick on this song still sounds great even after all these years.
Other than some faulty PR and inconsistant hold usage, I'm still fairly proud of this file. Oh, and it needs mines. Totally needs mines. 6.5/10

(Synexi) Bomberman: The Second Attack - lol I remember you sending me this. Wasn't this like the first file you made as Syenxi?
Just short enough to avoid being repetitive. Patterns feel completely random though. 5/10

(XOX) Border of Life V2 - Layering is completely inconsistant, holds are too long, that jack out of nowhere is retarded, and his username is too symmetrical. On the plus note, the gfx are cool. 2/10

(NTM vs Trumaestro) Chokehold - I remember that Trumaestro's was better so reviewing that one. The 24ths are clean and fun to hit. Some of the jump bursts are not, however. There's some missed layering opportunities. Still not bad though. 4.5/10

(Buizel) Death Moon II -

3.5/10

(Kommi vs Syenxi) DMG Guitar - Gets really repetitive, and a lot of the patterns could be WAY better. Basically that. 4/10

(moches) Electrical Parade - Holy shit I forgot about this file. Minimalistic as shit, but it really works. One of the rare gems of this pack. 7.5/10

(Thanh) End of the Moonlight - I'm still convinced Thanh is secretly gay. Even with his fiancee.
File has a lot of inconsistant layering and a lot of bad PR. Meh. 3/10

(Cyrenics) Far From Home - Underlayered as all hell. I can't believe I told him this was okay haha. Wow I was dumb. 2.5/10

(Legacy) Feelings from the Air - If you're going to put a 32nd wall in there, don't underlayer the parts surrounding it. 3.5/10

(Mr Bob) Frozen Bond - Nice bursts. Really. Not really. 3/10

(NTM) FURY OF THE MOTHER ****ING STORM - Really the bad audio cut and fade does me in. File is bland and repetitive, but it's Dragonforce. So yeah. 2.5/10

(yotipo) Herbie Goes Ballistic - Some of the patterns are retarded (just like the song), but technically it's not terrible. 3.5/10

(Synexi) Kickflip - I Patrick-Du-Style hate the polyrhythms in this file. Like seriously. Kill yourself. 4/10

(Exlax) Lawn Wake XI - For what you were going for, this is surprisingly underlayered. If you're going for a fully-stepped dump, then don't clench your asshole partial way through and stop it. Let it come out as one nice, flowing log of shit. 3/10

(Moches) Little Drummer Punk Droid - Some PR and layering inconsistancies spread throughout. Kinda curious as to what you could do with this if you re-stepped it today. 4.5/10

So I started on Xoon 3, will keep updating.

Xoon 3 shit:

(Roar176)250BPM =
> believe me this is technically correct
this is also technically gay, at least the beg chart. The Heavy chart is ok.

(Ferrari)Alive = Only complaint is that the song gets repetitive really fast, but the file is really fun and makes up for it.

(Trance Core)Beautiful Angel = Fun but I've always hated those minijacks. Also file goes offsync like halfway.

(Synexi)BLN = J-J-J-J-J-J-J-J-J-Ja-cks.

(Gundam-Dude)Candy Gossun = Toehoe + GD = ilike.png

(Kommisar) Cirno's Perfect Math Class = One of my top 10 sm files, nuff said.
p.s 9 is the strongest !!

(Roar176)Contract = Gay

(moches)D-Code = First thing that crosses my mind when I hear this is ITG rofl. But putting that aside, this is another file that I thoroughly enjoy playing. Nothing really to complain about it.

(Roar176)Danse Macabre = Another one of my top 10 sm files. Seriously I can't get enough of this file lmao. The only thing that irks me about it is that jack at the end. Apart from that, very fun MA file.

FFRCP2

(Kommisar) Chiptune Superstar - quite a bit of fun even now. layering gets a bit oblique at times, but the whole thing has such a nice atmosphere to it that it hardly matters. I've never stepped SHE because personally I find it hard to capture that feeling that his music has without straightlayering/oversimplifying but it's pulled off quite nicely here.

(Ferrari) Mind Mapping - hella interesting. this should have been boring but you add so many twists in that it hardly matters. only thing is that the end with all the 16ths needs way more jacks and some of those notes are way too subtle anyhow

(moches) Flowing 588 - nice song but not good for stepping. looking back I was such a stickler for copy+paste haha. little things about this file kinda surprise me because they're precursors for the style I would eventually develop but for the most part this is bland. also eww one-hand trills

(Patashu) Mnemoniq - weird file. fun for the most part but jacks feel too intense at times (to be fair though that's unavoidable given the layering) and some of the patterns felt cramped. that's Patashu's style in general, but for whatever reason it irked me a little. maybe just the song. still solid and I loved MA'ing this back in the day :O

(Kommisar) Helix Nebula - nothing special but still fun. every pack has a file like this

(Demented-O) The Game of Love - the quintessential fluff file. feels like a throwback to the ODI period.

(wc) Classical Guitar Solo - accurately stepped and good flow. not much else to say here

(Zelder) Hiai no Jubaku - a few choppy parts but all-around excellent and great for scoring.

(Patashu) Cosmic Dust - small personal note: this file is the reason I started stepping Phlogiston, so if you enjoy Croqel, this guy is at least partially responsible for it. this file is stepped..almost completely opposite of how I would have done it, and yet I love it so. the song is so awesome that I was going to love anybody who stepped it anyway.

(Zelda) Dusk's Holy Mark - double freezes out the wazoo. simple and fun otherwise

(Puppet) Concertino In Blue - this file is almost too intense at times, but it's fine. Puppet always had this attention to..details that really elevated his work; I was influenced a lot more by him than I cared to think about at the time.

(moches) Quantum Teleportation - the best part of this file is the stream/minefield at the end (and if you've been around a while, I used the exact same technique in LCP's Never Fade Away. bookends!) otherwise disposable repetitive jackfest

(Puppet) (F)AKE - I've whored this too many times to be able to give it anything approaching an objective review

(Puppet+Kommisar) Legend of Zelda/Amy/Kil/Dimentio? - boss file, quite possibly my favorite from this pack. seriously everything flows wonderfully, there are some legendary innovative touches (the mines on the sustained saxophone note is sublime) and the whole thing just has this playfulness to it. forward-thinking file and possibly in my top 20 files of all time (arbitrary number but you get my point)

(npv) Sparkle Downer - I'm not terribly fond of npv's steplosophy but it works here. rigid layering but fits the song.

(Dimentio) Run The Place Red - not detecting any sort of structure to the patterns here at all. seems arbitrarily stepped. on the other hands, rhythms are quite fun and there are some neat touches in here.

(Shash) Holy Orders - this file is 100% FFR, but that certainly isn't any reason to dismiss it. simply constructed but very well-done and great for scoring. personally I find it overlong but most will differ.

(wc) A Quick Death - takes skill to make a file this hard without a single bad pattern in it. flawless scoring file.

(Spitfire) Pandora - beautiful song, very effective file. the construction here is like a really good thriller--suck your player in, build tension, and then RELEASE. could have failed if you didn't do a good job at all of that. you did a good job.

HIMIKO - lol

i love this review

Gonna start stepping more I think... I don't want No Such Thing or Like A Man to be my best files anymore.

It would probably help to stop stepping old school style and learn to step the nowadays style
