I'm not saying it won't change, but I don't think we can be confident either way at this point. But sure do I love the ride they're putting us through.

Re: The Revolution (Wii) is Here.
Okay, I did some more research and decided it probably isnt a hoax.
eg: parents going into Target and saying their son wants a playstation360 or an xcube. |

Re: The Revolution (Wii) is Here.
This is true. Most companies use heavily-syllabled names and it ends up confusing parents who want to buy stuff for it.
My mom still hasn't learned that I don't own a GameBox or an XCube yet. =/ Even if it doesn't get renamed, it will still be the most popular console ever. Once people start telling / showing their friends how awesome it is to play and how much cheaper it is to get one over a PS3 or 360, the news about how great it is will trickle down until it gets to everyone. ~Squeek |

Re: The Revolution (Wii) is Here.
I think an important thing about their choice of name, including leaving off the "Nintendo" as being part of its official moniker, is that they do not want to instantly alienate that group of non-gamers. They want the Wii to seem like something new - something fun and intriguing. Not "the newest awesome game console" that many non-gamers would dismiss without giving a second thought.
Gamers will buy it because... well, they're gamers! And who could resist it at such a good price with such interesting possibilities? This is practically a given. But the key point is! Non-gamers will be intrigued by it as well, which is what Nintendo is really getting at with their marketing. Non-gamers will look at the PS3 and the Xbox 360 and think "oh, there's that stupid thing my son/grandson/boyfriend/etc. wastes so much time and money on." But that's not how they'll see the Wii.

Anyway I don't think this will be the most popular console of next gen. It'll probably be an almost 3-way tie next gen with PS3 and Xbox 360 both close together unless Sony decides to commit FSCKING SUICIDE and sell their console for under $499 (supposively it costs, what, at LEAST $800 to build one PS3). It would also be suicide to sell it at or over $499. They'd still be losing a lot of money and not many people would buy it. On the other hand, the Xbox 360 and Wii both cost much less to make, and the Wii costs even less to buy, so they'll get good share of people who are scared away by a large price-tag.

Re: The Revolution (Wii) is Here.
Nintendo didn't go the HD route, so they aren't losing money just putting in this technology to run games at 1080p. Some say it's not even 1080p, but 1080i, which is worse.
I don't have the official numbers, but I'm pretty sure they can produce the Wii for less than it costs the consumer to buy one. Pretty shoddy marketing if not. Aside from the means of capturing movement from the controller and the final unrevealed secret, there isn't much in terms of processing power or display capabilities that would make it cost much to make. ~Squeek |

Re: The Revolution (Wii) is Here.
For the record: Wii is a stupid name.
Also for the record: Names don't matter. People are fussing too much, but damn dude, Wii? Ridiculous name.

Some big "official" online gaming news site decided to report on what I told you all A WEEK AGO. I, of course, did not get credit. Sad face.
http://www.gamedaily.com/features/?id=1000&page=1 Give it a read. They put it into nice words. I still want credit for this... if I'm right. ~Squeek |

We all dismissed that though. At least I think that was the consensus agreement.

Re: The Revolution (Wii) is Here.
Motion Sensored Controller controlling people onscreen? I'll believe it. Total Immersion bull****? Ain't gona buy it.TI seems a little like the stunt Killzone 2 tried to pull at E3 last year. It looks nice, but there isn't any real substantial backing to it.

This isn't really like Killzone. Sony showed a movie, tried to call it a game, and then had to backstep... That total immersion is in no way linked to Nintendo, that we know of. Any videos you've seen have been independant companies demonstrating the tech. And chromer, nothing substantial? It's incredibly cool, and is already in use. I suggest you find a few of the videos. It's definitely substantial, but there's pretty much no chance Nintendo has this in the Wii...As it would still require way too sophisticated technology (including perfectly positioned cameras, I'd imagine)...

Re: The Revolution (Wii) is Here.
Dangit, a little while ago I was tricked into a free trial subscription to TIME. I let it go for a while to at least make it worth it, and last week I finally got around to canceling it. And NOW, something I actually care about comes up.
=( OH WELL ROFL TOMMORROW MORNING GUYS!!!!!! I know I'll be up and watching it live.

Re: The Revolution (Wii) is Here.
That whole interview is up online already, as well as the scans. And scans from the latest EGM are out and they spell out some fairly significant things about Wii.
Any reaction to PS3 trying to copy Wii? (effectively only actually copying half of it, as it essentially has the same tech as the nunchuck attatchment has.)

Muskrat, don't try to act like Nintendo is SOOOOO innovative that everyone is trying to copy them. Copying other people is what happens in the industry. Deal with it. Depending on what I see over the next few days, I'll make my decision whether I buy a Wii or PS3 first come fall.
