Remembering the 2nd FFR Convention
I was telling T-Force over Discord about the 2nd FFR convention and it made me nostalgic. He said I should make a thread about some of the memories. I also know a lot of veterans from those days are still around so I'm curious to hear their memories from it as well. (I know there was a thread at the time but having the same people around now is half the fun.)
A few memories from me: All That Chaz and I drove there from Wisconsin (convention was in Bowling Green, Ohio) but there was a meetup in southern Michigan the day before at an arcade. I can't remember the name or the location but we picked up Jellygod on the way. I remember bringing a Game Boy with me and letting him play it. I can't remember the game he played but there's a good chance his save file is still on it if the game required one. Had a good time with the guy and I'm glad I was able to meet him. I can't remember who I was chatting with at the arcade (darkmanticore or danceguy maybe?) when Synthlight came up to us and asked us if we had seen someone he was looking for. (One of the admins I think.) He didn't introduce who he was but that was how I first met him. A few of us had food together at one point either before or after the arcade. I bought some peanuts before arriving and first met Tass by asking him if he wanted some nuts. Basically had to be involved in some sort of nut joke at the time. I played Golden Axe with Nestlekwik for awhile which was fun despite dying constantly. (RIP Chaz's quarters) A group of us stayed at the same house the night before the convention. Most people slept on the first floor. I slept in the basement with Sprite. Alone. Just the two of us. There was a lot I could go on about with the convention itself but I'll let others do that for now. One thing I will mention is when Synthlight came into the room with a bucket and announced loudly "I HAZ A BUCKET!" (I forgot why he needed a bucket in the first place but it was perfect.) |

Re: Remembering the 2nd FFR Convention
I think so. I remember there being posts about it, and there being a video, but I don't think I actually caught any of it.

Re: Remembering the 2nd FFR Convention
Ignore my teenager writing, but I do believe the bucket was for this.
I THINK this was the 2nd Con, and if so. Yes it was streamed because that's how I got this picture.

Re: Remembering the 2nd FFR Convention
It was definitely streamed. That picture must be from it haha. I think the first convention was streamed? But I don't think the bucket was a thing then.
Also I must have confused meeting danceguy at Anime North to this convention 'cause I've been told he wasn't at this one. I can't remember who was standing next to me at that point! |

Re: Remembering the 2nd FFR Convention
Yeah I was stuck in California for these cons, I remember saying to myself after this one that I wouldn't miss the next one and I think that's when they stopped having them? It was definitely cool to put faces to a bunch of people I talked to regularly back then.
Side note - hi hammy!

Yeah, there never was another official one after the 2nd. Only unofficial meet-ups have happened. If there was a 3rd, I'd most likely go to it. I'd imagine it would take some significant community funding on top of the interest, though. Last edited by HammyMcSquirrel; 07-20-2020 at 12:54 PM.. |

Re: Remembering the 2nd FFR Convention
I would definitely want to go if they ran one again, flying across country is much easier in my 30's compared to my teenage years. Good news, conventions probably won't be happening for at least the next year and a half so we have some time to plan at least. =D

Re: Remembering the 2nd FFR Convention
I vaguely remember the stream but never made it out to OH or AN unfortunately.
Hoping we can get a meetup going now that I'm much more free to do whatever I want mostly.

Re: Remembering the 2nd FFR Convention
I remember the bucket, the stream. I remember us all being in a big room at Bowling Green. I remember being at the arcade the day before in Ann Arbor, but not the name of it.
I don't remember if this was the con where I drove Sprite? I do also think this was when we had an admin pow-pow as well in Chicago, went to see Blue Man Group, and the greatest simfile of all time was masterpieced into existence.

Re: Remembering the 2nd FFR Convention
ohi
It was definitely in Ann Arbor, and we stayed at DrugstoreCowboy's house that night. I remember we spent a lot of time with jellygod, flipsta, pete, manti, sprite... jasonkey was really cool. One part of the trip I remember that was really nice was after the con before we drove back home we all stopped at a diner or something for breakfast. I remember sitting next to jellygod and how happy he was. It was only after this trip that I started doing profile mod stuff and later helped with forum moderation and admin. It was meeting everyone here that made me so invested in helping this crew of really good people. Miss you all, hit me up on discord sometime ^^

Re: Remembering the 2nd FFR Convention
I think this was the one where I was supposed to pick up Rebirth on my way to it. Ended up having to cancel and I don't think he got to go either. Felt bad but I truly didnt have the money nor the goodwell of my job to get the time off.
I did end up making the drive years later for Glass City Con 4 though. |

Re: Remembering the 2nd FFR Convention
I was also just reminiscing about this convention and thinking about how great of a time is was for all of us. These are just a few of the photos I have from that time, but it was great to have so many of this community stay at my house, go to an arcade and bubble island, and then head down to the convention.
Miss you all |

Holy fuck you're still alive.
I've had to re-do the permissions thread into a spreadsheet recently and it cannot be understated just how much permission presence you contributed. FFR misses you mate <3 |
