what the f
at first i was just screwing around cuz i usually have no idea what im talking about but then i actually looked at the file why are you all so angry about this file enough to create an inflammatory image solely to disgrace the creator of the file and the people who appreciate it and then proceed to tell intensez "Your pack is garbage and you should feel bad" completely ignoring all who may have been offended in the crossfire not to mention players of your caliber (referring to mina and ilikexd and the like) should be able to handle these bursts just fine i guarantee you, the average experienced player is going to play this and say "LMAO THOSE BURSTS KILLED ME XD" not give a crap and move on unlike you lot we can continue to tell ourselves that we've got this "putting arrows to music thing" figured out write all the guides you want but hell this is just gross Last edited by BilliumMoto; 07-25-2015 at 05:20 PM.. |

Re: Super Revival Pack 2015 released, download links inside!
Nobody is angry about the file. It's called criticism. And there was nothing that really qualifies as inflammatory or an attack on intensez, or calling the pack "garbage".
I haven't played SM for 2 years, so no, I can't do those bursts, and regardless, my being able to handle some bursts has no bearing on the decision to put them in the chart and how they affect the difficulty of the chart. By that reasoning, nobody can criticize a chart in terms of its difficulty distribution if they are good enough to hit all of it, which is obvious nonsense. And your guarantee is proven wrong because in the live stream multiple players were frustrated and took the time to say "I did not like those bursts and one-handed trill.", expressing displeasure. It takes little experience to know that players, especially on FFR, are very vocal about charts that have big difficulty jumps that making scoring and enjoyment difficult. There are files that are notorious on FFR for this, that are disliked by a significant portion or majority of players because of it. Far from "not giving a crap". There are no objective standards to stepping, but appropriate difficulty distribution is almost universally shared as a positive quality by players and steppers because of the way it affects scoring and enjoyment. your case is fair (and was an erroneous assumption on my part), but does not apply to all who i was referring to the average stepman does not stream yes, good difficulty distribution is good, but you shouldn't fling poop when something out of the ordinary comes along and takes you out of your comfort zone |

I think he was driven to say that by Mina's long post. And I already explained what I thought about Mina's post: that he is misinterpreting the premise of the pack.
And myself and stargroup never made any posts bashing the pack. Stargroup specifically and with reasoning criticized an aspect of one simfile, and you reduced it being "butthurt". The average player does care about difficulty spikes--any FFR player can tell you all the charts that have notorious difficulty spikes that make the chart unenjoyable. And what are you referring to with poop flinging? Mina's post? Last edited by ilikexd; 07-25-2015 at 06:00 PM.. |

Re: Super Revival Pack 2015 released, download links inside!
Maybe its just because I've played so many files from Iamme that had plain stupid difficulty spikes in files that weren't supposed to be that difficult is kind of why I didn't mind aspects like the one burst in Kaneh's file. And in a lot of my older stuff, and possibly in some of my newer stuff, those spikes still tend to get in the way, but for me, I always find that to be another nice element of a song. Its like in guitar hero, especially the older songs, that would have ridiculous difficulty spikes when a lot of the song is rather chill, some examples of those being Cult of Personality, Knights of Cydonia, Jordan to some extent (as long as you didnt know that there was a huge difficulty jump in the solo), and hell even songs like Blackened had dumb spikes in them where you had to work extra hard on that. And I really don't mind that. I love having to practice certain sections like that to be able to get that portion good, rather than reading it no problem on sight. Its enjoyable. To me at least. But then again, I'm just weird.

I did not even mention a single specific chart in my post. I wasn't criticizing a specific chart. Rather, I was trying to explain the psychology behind why these things are undesirable. If you want a stronger argument, I can explain why these things are not exactly desirable in terms of practical qualities as well. People who play charts for fun look for connections between the music and notes, justified by some correlation. Arbitrarily spiking the difficulty breaks that correlation and aesthetic. People who play charts for competition prefer charts that are conducive to a competitive environment. Difficulty spikes don't benefit this goal. For example, it then becomes very difficult to determine how many combo breakers sourced from the spike and how many sourced from the constant BPM stream. There is a large variance in scoring of burst sections versus consistent sections. This makes it far more difficult to judge the skill level of a player consistently.

he was probably trying to help everyone realize that they're arguing about a video game where the goal is to pulverize your fingers into dust for approximately zero gain, monetary or otherwise

Re: Super Revival Pack 2015 released, download links inside!
I honestly don't care to be a sarcasm detector or troll police at this point. With this shitty level of constructive discussion I wanted to contribute however I can so as to not let the community fall apart. Back in the days of ODI this was actually a significant problem, and it made the community very difficult to approach for a lot of people.
I couldn't care less if he was trolling. Posts were made, and I respond to them how I see fit. Yeah well, at some we do need to find an appropriate balance here. Obviously this is a recreational activity that is not critical to our lives, but we also don't go to a cooking forum and tell people that ultimately looks and taste don't matter because it ends up in our stomach anyways.

The vast majority of people playing video games are just accomplishing pointless goals and doing so with zero monetary gain. There are legitimate things to discuss (or argue about) in rhythm games, it just happens to be really trendy to say "lol who cares" on this website.
