Re: Should the FFR Official Tournament Only Use New Files?
I think if they will put old songs in the tournament, i could go out on the first round, becouse of a mind-fucked song that i can't improve, then do as you like, I understand that it is a huge job

Re: Should the FFR Official Tournament Only Use New Files?
Is there any way to speed up the current judging process? I've seen several batch notes with songs getting 0/10 - 2/10 and so on that get detailed notes, maybe there can be a screening phase where someone just checks over the file that it passes submission requirements and is absent of any blatant errors. Once approved, the file would get full judging and detailed notes. Now I haven't kept up on the process lately, but I remember seeing songs from 0/10 to 4/10 getting detailed notes, which seemed like a waste of time, when a screening could have caught it.

Re: Should the FFR Official Tournament Only Use New Files?
Havent read through the thread yet, but using older songs would cause problems for me and i probably wouldnt particpate. As most of you know when going for ranks you get blocks on songs when you play them over and over and its hard to get rid of them. Most songs 79+ i have at least 1-2, if not more.
Playing them for a tourny would just make it worse for me, im sure others have said the same thing but i wont know until later when i can read this all.

i think the problem with judging is that it's done in massive batches rather than as a steady stream of files, so judging becomes a massive commitment every couple of months rather than something a lot more manageable every week or two maybe someone else can chime in about this, but it seems like a problem to me and it makes it seem like the only people who could possibly handle the job are no lifers like me

Anyway, it's pretty clear that most people are on the new content side or lean towards it. I'll hold off the tournament and try to fill all slots with new content. I'm going to ask since special batches are unlikely to fit in anytime soon that any simfile authors out there up to it try to get in some easier files in the range that you'd see in D1 and early D2. Then stuff for the high end because D7 can be rough to fill. |

The issue is that there officially are none. And the backlog only grows right now, because the batch is still open for some reason. Until the batch judges are re-selected, there's pretty much zero reason for the batch to be open, because all they're doing is increasing the backlog. There's also no reason to be going three songs a week with the queue being so low either. But I don't think the batch speed is why the question was asked. The question was more of, "Would the site see it as a bad thing if we were to hold the tournament sooner, and use in-game files in the mix of new ones; or would the site prefer to see a tourney that possibly gets delayed, but has brand new files?" I'm not trying to speak for Kayla here, but that's how the wording leads me to interpret it. The answer at the moment seems that users want a delay, and are ok with it as long as they get newer material out of the deal. Which is fine really. I mean, I love the idea of completely new files for every tourney, but I can't say I object to the notion of using older ones either. I think viewing it as similar to a user tourney that gets over hyped is a bit unfair, but I get where that idea comes from. If I can be of help, let me know. Even if it's just helping organize and format things like the responses. Last edited by XelNya; 05-2-2015 at 10:23 AM.. |

I'm just really hoping I don't have to hold off until late fall or winter. There's 195 files in queue total right now from what I saw in the queue batch thread which when you figure how many will actually get accepted isn't very much. I had no idea how low it had been for the last month, only 20 submissions. If this month simfile authors start thinking in terms of the tournament and get files in that would fit some of those odd slots I'm hoping that maybe I can shoot for August for the tournament. I don't know, I'll keep you all posted on what's going on. It's a little all over the place right now. I believe silvuh said he'd do group 1 as well on the oldest batch which would give us the 4 we need. I'm going to do as many as I can of the 195 and have one other that is going to as well. Not sure if Nathan was intending on doing the same. If he is then we might be able to bang these out somewhat quickly because we could do a 3 judge rating type deal and then have like silvuh or doss look over files where there's any major score differences kind of thing. I'm rambling now, I'll shut up lol. |

So are you saying that we should concentrate on stepping difficulty 1-20 and 90-99 in this batch?
Gotcha.

For the higher range I'd probably say look at the 80 and up range for things we're missing.

Re: Should the FFR Official Tournament Only Use New Files?
i say we should keep it with all new files...only because its more of a challenge to see a new file that you never tried and it makes you wanna try to tame it more and more...till your fingers break! it drives you to wanna take the challenge head on knowing that its new...not just to win but because its fun to push your self to wanna beat it...or anything~!! i admit adding some old here and there sounds fine...but you might be in that round where those few peeps just so happened to know that file and play it...its kinda like a unfair advantage...in some ways...but i dont mind but i just see it as a easier way out... new songs = more challenge ....its the best way to put it...i guess... p~p

Re: Should the FFR Official Tournament Only Use New Files?
August would be cool as I'm traveling to Oxford in July
Honestly I just want my file released lol, I now realize that it's probably useful as a tourney file even if it's in the common 60s range, enjoy Also I voted for all new files as that's my honest opinion, the situation probably doesn't call for that as a solution but oh well, that's how it goes. A mix would be cool, the thing I foresee though (I know at least for me) is that when old files are announced as round songs, I'm gonna be like *sigh*, this file again.. blah |
