I watched G4TV.com this morning and found out that some of hacker just changed the "main.pcm" file (I think that's what he said) to unlock it. Rockstar claims that the hacker himself put in the mod, but he calims all the animations, graphics models, etc. were done by Rockstar. And I saw the censored version on the episode... wow. An AO rating is definitely not a mistake.

Rockstar in Hot Coffee

Catch the G4TV.com episode if you can.

On topic: Think about it this way, guys: at least the government didn't just ban the game or something. They're still allowing the game to be sold, except now, one needs to be one year older to buy it, and it's illegal for a minor to even play it. No big deal anyway, as most underaged people have seen pornography and stuff anyway. Underage people will always gain access to things they shouldn't ( @ Kaos).

yeah, I'm so pissed that I can't buy a game 2 years after it was released...

@afro: it IS a big deal, because no major retailers will carry a game if it is rated AO. It's pretty much an online-only market-place at that point.

@nforcer: you really think it deserved the AO rating? Because of some extremely poor-animated dry humping? I don't know why they had to censor it...they have clothes on at all times...

Well, no matter what you can and can't see, it obviously still is what it is. remember that these GTA games since 3 always were well into the M rating... all that was left out was the blatant, full-blown, visally-displayed sexual activity. Well, there it is, so, an AO rating it gets.

Actually, thinking about this, I just checked the ESRB site to find descriptors. I bolded ones that were added in each installment.
  • GTA1 (PS) and GTA2 (DC and PC): Animated Blood, Strong Language

    GTA3: Blood, Strong Language, Violence

GTA Vice City: Blood and Gore, Strong Language, Strong Sexual Content, Violence

GTA San Andreas: Blood and Gore, Intense Violence, Nudity, Strong Language, Strong Sexual Content, Use of Drugs

Notice how it kept building up? Everything was M up until San Andreas now. I mean, it got three descriptors added or upgraded. None of the GTA installments before that did. It's no wonder how they got an AO now. I mean, that's A LOT of strong descriptors there... and you know the ESRB doesn't randomly throw them in.

As for the censoring, they probably had to do so to keep it a TV14 rating because of the content, I'm sure.

I remember a few years ago, I walked into a store to buy DOA: Extreme Beach Volleyball(also for the fact that I felt like a Volleyball video game). They wouldn't let me buy it, because I wasn't 18, and it contained nudity. I basically threw out the "WTFUX ITS M NOOB" conversation and she didn't get convinced. Ended up getting Outlaw Volleyball, turns out that has far stronger sexual themes in some parts than I think DOA would -.- They need to give it an AO rating if they are going to sell it to only people 18+

San Andreas needed AO rating long before the pornographic download came along. Doen't anybody see that? Given a game where you act like a gang leader, or you make a living stealing or screwing, the storyline is completely obnoxious and pretty insensitized. Games in general are okay.....to a point. I mean...why gang member? Does it occur to anyone that maybe they're lowering your expectations of a future job by showing you how to drive fast, shoot a gun, or nail a hooker? I can understand learning how to shoot a gun right, but that game is teaching you crap you don't necessarily need to know.
