Re: Yolomania Vol. 3 Submissions Open!
Here's another file preview. Included some xmods too for fun, though they're SM5 only. They won't show up on 3.9/3.95 but it's still playable (and won't crash or anything)

Re: Yolomania Vol. 3 Submissions Open!
i made an MA file, patterns feel really fun to me but the 1hand trills can get a little rude my reviews are done, will be posting after at least one or two more people from the group take a look as well, I went pretty in depth this time so they should be up sooner rather than later. posting graphics help thread momentarily as well, stay tuned! |

Re: Yolomania Vol. 3 Submissions Open!
[PorkyPink] Black Cloak Skeleton - Accepted
Super fun file. Has our seal of approval. No real complains on our end. [blaziken] Distance - Conditional Mostly good, just a few really irritating things. General things - there are a LOT of missing 16ths, obviously you left them out intentionally for the most part but I think some could be considered again, please give the chart a once over and let me know what you think All times are in ddream, might be slightly off compared to the SM editor 43.837 - move [3] to [1] please, this feels out of place as is (numbers in brackets = columns, so [1] = left, [2] = down, [3] = up, [4] = right) 109.494 - this beat is really inaccurate, probably shouldnt be a roll here at all, take another look please 119.951 - why put this arrow here (blue one inbetween the mines/holds). really unnecessary imo and its super hard to hear/time 219.551 - section starting here has a lot of 12ths/24ths that just don't feel right, this needs some attention 230.180 - same thing as 109.494 Otherwise JS patterns are fun and the jacks aren't too imposing considering the bpm so its good in my book, just has a lot of little issues. [Yulanik] Fairy Dance - Conditional First major problem, you need to define an interesting part to play during the preview music, because no one will pick this otherwise as it just sounds like a dull piano file for the sample you have right now. Second major problem is just general consistency and layering things. Like, its hard to tell why at 6.643s you don't have a short 32nd run here, and you step these little things elsewhere. Third sort of problem - your minijacks seem a little inconsistent, just take another peak at what you're doing with these please Some specific errors: 19.276 - This should be a grace note leading into a jump, not a hand offset by a 48th. Slow it down if you need to hear the interval as being precise on a file like this probably matters a lot. 25.393 - not sure about the 1h trill here, its probably okay though 46.443 - consider changing to something like a [14][23] jumptrill for this beat to better fit your layering. same thing happens 4 beats later. 54.734 - not a fan of this color theory rest of the file is really solid imo, also note that you don't have to listen to all my suggestions, they're just suggestions, do what you want [L.C.W.] Sigmund - Accepted Super fun file, less jacky then I expected. Pretty much a god tier 200 bpm file imo [RainFalleN] - SHOOL KILLERZ - Rejected We don't really think anyone is going to have a lot of fun with this one. Those 32nd bursts in the middle of dense handstream stamina stuff is really kind of a niche idea, don't see it getting played a lot. [Choof] - SINister Evolution - Conditional Tone down the mines a bit please, some parts are just way overkill IMO. Here's a few examples of some parts that stood out to me. http://puu.sh/9uLQS/50c90cc611.png - 32nds gap before arrows? Brutally annoying http://puu.sh/9uLUc/29dbbc5bdf.png - why.... if nothing else these need to be sorted out. this shit is just rude IMO. http://puu.sh/9uLXD/9fe3f936e9.png - 96th gap between mine/arrows. really? (i think i accidentally deleted a hold on [4] here when I was grabbing these screenshots, obviously didn't save) you should get the idea. This stuff happens a lot and I really think very few people are going to play this and not get frustrated enough to just play YoshL's version. some parts you did here are really neat but ughhhhhhh, you don't have to tone it down too much, just a little :/ [Yulanik] - ZETA - Conditional Close to being a great file, but I have too many beefs with it. 28.233 - why is this one color theory'd, the other ones had that little bell thing as obviously the loudest special sound, but this doesn't have it. just a consistency thing. don't go too ham on this color theory stuff you're not really helping anyone here. 40.793 - I'm not sure there's a 16th here... not a big deal though 42.876 - color theory... pls...overkill not gonna point out any more of these after this point, there's a bunch, just try and minimize your use of this, its really unnecessary and doesn't make your file any more fun, especially with how liberally you're using it 67.543 - missing 16ths 78.043 - I disagree with your layering for this little part complete. feels really wrong and awkward, consider stepping the bells until your 48th burst 83.043 - missing 16ths? lots of weird layering choices in this section 91.209 - halved bpm and color theory feels a bit obnoxious here, also lots of missing "16ths", (32nds since you halved the bpm), just a little hard to understand why you chose to chart some piano runs but didn't choose others when they're about the same intensity/volume, also some "minijack" things here (even if 90 bpm is hella slow, work on some consistency here) If you take nothing else away from this, just work on layering consistency and also tone down your bpm gimmicks/gray note color theory, because it just feels out of place most of the time. --- Graphics help thread is up! http://www.flashflashrevolution.com/....php?p=4150469 Up to about 90 files now, for updated song list and stuff keep an eye on the graphics thread |

yoshl's file and mine are similar, but his uses freezes and mines to accent certain things. I use freezes and mines to force the player to play a certain way. that's the whole concept of a minedodge file. http://puu.sh/9uLQS/50c90cc611.png reasoning: the mines accent the rising volume of that reverse crash cymbal. http://puu.sh/9uLUc/29dbbc5bdf.png reasoning: accenting the swell. the hand goes to the loud percussion, but it's coated in reverb, which explains the mines after it. http://puu.sh/9uLXD/9fe3f936e9.png reasoning: again, these mines are following the swell. tbh I'm surprised you pointed these out instead the sections with rolls into mine jacks. the file plays well, and scoring well on this file requires a bit of a different skill set. I'm not even good at stepmania and I can sdg this with no mines hit Last edited by choof; 06-15-2014 at 02:38 PM.. |

Re: Yolomania Vol. 3 Submissions Open!
you realize mines before notes are much easier to avoid than mines after notes, right? it's not nearly as bad as you are making it out to be.

This is kind of rude, where are you coming from? You realize I playtested it right? I'm not an idiot, I know how mines work.
