Quitting cigs.
So for the first time in a loooong time I'm making a full effort in quitting fags. I'm two weeks in now without any nicotine substitute and doing well, but am worried I'm going to fail the first time I have a realllllllllllllllllllly shit day. Anyone else quit got advice on staying strong? I really want to stay off them this time as it has fucked my health for a while now, and I'm really trying to improve my life, starting with good health. So far not having any serious cravings, which is good - but in my line of work I'm one drunk wanker away from wanting one.

Since you are trying to improve your health, maybe you should try working out?

Re: Quitting fags.
Yeh, joining a local 24 hour gym as I used to work out a lot but stopped when I started my job (random hours day and night 6 days a week :S ) but want to get back into it. The one thing I have on my side is I only smoked rollies (tailored are grim) so chances of giving in and bumming one are low.

Re: Quitting fags.
Pretty much 8 years. I 'quit' for 2 years but that involved the odd one so wasn't really quitting.

Re: Quitting fags.
Little things like chewing a toothpick or drinking through a straw can help alleviate any oral fixation, but boredom is going to be your biggest enemy;
I've started taking books to work and reading on my smoke breaks rather than sitting around smoke after smoke waiting to get back to work. Willpower has a lot to do with it, but you'll find it x1000 times easier if you can just keep finding things to preoccupy yourself with. Reading, running, exercising, ffr, etc; Are all great ways to keep your mind as far away from considering a cigarette as possible. Source: I'm quitting too. |

Re: Quitting cigs.
If quitting cold turkey isn't working, and too strong are the physical habitual tendencies for wanting to hold a cigarette and smoke it, then look into buying an e-cig, and gradually taper down your nicotine level IMO.
Goodluck to ya, your lungs and skin and breath and hair and fingers and wallet will thank you.

This. I quit about 3 years ago cold turkey. I had to find other things to help sooth the cravings and keep from being bored. |

Re: Quitting cigs.
I think my dad was using sunflower seeds with the shells on to distract him from smoking. Aside from the mess it's a hell of a lot healthier than cigs.
Being around people in the first couple weeks of quitting is a nightmare. Anyway, good on you! Keep it up. Make sure you're replacing your addiction with something healthy and you should be able to do this. |
