Re: The Speedrunning Thread
Really cliche but this run is one of the most interesting out there
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0M7IINwTFVw Not because the run is extraordinarily phenominal but the commentary he provides really provides a lot of insight as to how much this game has changed over the years. |

Re: The Speedrunning Thread
Uuuuuugh, this Starcraft run is boring. Maybe it's just because I'm not really in to those RTS games, haha.
At least some Valve games are next. Those are interesting to watch, dohoho. |

I'm rather surprised they decided to add SCII to the lineup. Doesn't seem like a good game to speedrun just in general, let alone when trying to entertain tens of thousands of people live.

Re: The Speedrunning Thread
TeamLiquid is usually a huge donor, and this is the time they plug a gigantic donation. Other than financial incentive, this is not a very entertaining speedgame.

I think in a previous marathon, someone ran Metroid Fusion and the commentary was amazing. He explained EVERYTHING that he was doing. It was the most entertaining run in that marathon. Shame I don't know the person's name or what marathon it was in. |

Zoasty's 100% from SGDQ 2013 is a super amazing run for a marathon, and very entertaining. SnappyZ Quote:

I would love to see how they figured that one out nvm he explained it, jesus. That is the coolest glitch I think I've ever seen. Lots of logic underneath that one. Last edited by Reincarnate; 01-9-2014 at 09:32 PM.. |

Re: The Speedrunning Thread
Cosmo is without a doubt my favorite person to watch. You should check out his Wind Waker runs if you have like 4+ hours to spare. Or watch his live run during the marathon Saturday.

Re: The Speedrunning Thread
Lots of free time and boredom probably, haha.
It's like how people find the most random stuff in Super Mario World. I mean, who in the world comes UP with this? I posted this earlier in the thread, but you seem interested in this, so there you go. |

He's... beating Ganon with a Deku stick
I gotta watch all these other vids, I feel like I've been missing out on some serious gaming history or something. Last edited by Reincarnate; 01-9-2014 at 09:39 PM.. |

Re: The Speedrunning Thread
I think hobby is the word you're looking for.
as far as favorite (marathon?) runs roundbox posted an incredibly impressive SM 100% run. At that time it was the second best time in the world aside from the WR, which was (and still is) held by him. Pair that with Jadin's LTTP run and that was probably my favorite part of SGDQ2013. AGDQ2013's Pocky & Rocky by PJ and mr. k stands out. There are probably some really cool highlights I can't think of because there are a lot of great marathon runs. Oh and yeah Cosmo is pretty popular bc of his in depth commentary. Looking forward to him redeeming Wind Waker. :>

Re: The Speedrunning Thread
The truly amusing part, of course, being that the Deku Stick is actually the most effective weapon in the game against Ganon.

If there's one that really stands out, aside from Ocarina of Time, it is Super Mario 64. Watching SM64 go from 16 star to 1-star to 0-star is epic speedrunning history. Definitely take a look into all the different SM64 categories and the origins of the BLJ trick. In the words of TASvideos, "At first there were 70 stars because Bowser demanded it. Then there were 16 stars because MIPS the rabbit demanded it. Then there was 1 star because Bowser's Sub demanded it. Now there are none because the viewers are impatient and demanded the game be quicker."

Re: The Speedrunning Thread
He's hooked
Speedgaming is super neat when you actually see how glitches are done and why they happen. I remember my friends and I used to religiously avoid item duping in Pokemon Red/Blue because it was "cheap"...and at the time it made no sense at all but someone at school read up on it in a magazine or something in 5th grade. Most glitches are pretty difficult to execute anyways and still allow runs to be interesting (except the observation glitch in ALttP or something). Good entertaining runs that I can remember off the top of my head: Wind Waker in 4:44.40 at AGDQ 2013 by Cosmo - Super Mario 64: 120 Stars in 1:47.48 at AGDQ 2013 by Siglemic - Super Mario World in 10:37 at AGDQ 2013 by dram - Super Monkey Ball (Expert) in 22:35 at AGDQ 2013 by Miles - and runs that I thought were pretty sick at this AGDQ so far: Megaman 2 in 30:05 by cyghfer - http://www.twitch.tv/speeddemosarchi...23053?t=24h33m Castlevania: Symphony of the Night (Alucard) in 17:53 by romscout - http://www.twitch.tv/speeddemosarchi...1459?t=9h0m25s |
