What's your idea of retirement?
Since the retirement thread got me thinking, I was wondering if people would share their personal opinions on the matter.
Personally I'd like to go into surfing and gardening. Love to be able to say "I tackled that wave bitches." |

Do volunteer work, help out the kids, play music, watch the news all day, and chill in the high life. Do whatever I want and travel wherever I want.
go out and eat all the time, and hire help to come by 1-3 times a week to run my errands and drive me around. |

Reflect, and relax, and enjoy everything. And to share that viewpoint.

Oh, I'm going to live in a big city for sure. I'd honestly be surprised if I left San Francisco at any point in my life from here on out

Being married and spending time with them. Attempt to be close to potential kids and their families or whatever they are doing.
The where doesn't make a lot of difference for me as long as it isn't a shithole. I'll probably think otherwise in 20-30 years. |

Re: What's your idea of retirement?
My ideal retirement would be spending a lot of time with my grandchildren and taking them out to parks/stores/spoiling the crap out of them so that my kids will all be like "Stop that mom!" That way I can tease them about it 8) Also spending time with the hubby and possibly traveling the world.

Re: What's your idea of retirement?
My idea of retirement: Wishing I were in better health to do things that I want to do, dealing with pain everyday, being upset by all the death of friends and family that's happening while simultaneously wishing people would visit me more and leave me alone more.
My ideal of retirement: Not my idea of retirement. |

Re: What's your idea of retirement?
buying and reading every book on my amazon wishlist (currently 300+ and over $10,000; I have a lot of textbooks on there.)
assuming 20 pages per hour (for technical books, this is generous) it would take anywhere from one to six years of reading every day for 8 hours. most likely two to six years though; a graduate-level comprehensive exam in philosophy covers about 75 books and is supposed to give you the cred you need for your master's, so something like six years is entirely possible. then, taking that knowledge and applying it to the real world via either writing or investing or advocating. alternative retirement: constant sex/parties/orgies via some massive recruitment program that only recruited people of certain personality types who are best suited for it. utter debauchery on what is essentially a sex island. |
