Down with the Sickness is my childhood! Well at least a part of it.

Re: Songs of the Week (Aug 4, 2013)
Chipscape was very nice, I really liked the pretty bursts and how they worked, this was some of the most fun I've had on an FGO.
Down With The Sickness was not really to my taste, although the [14]^4 parts was a nice motif. Most of the file felt bland to me though imo. N's Farewell is a beautiful song but some of the PR seemed deliberately inverted, idk. Easy and soothing. Witchcraft was cool too, although why was like the first half of the long jacks frontloaded as 1111? No matter, fun stuff!

Chip looks fun, can't wait to play it
Witchcraft plays to my strengths, if I don't split the hands/jumps |

Re: Songs of the Week (Aug 4, 2013)
just played chipscape it was ok kinda fun but the hands being colored is really distracting and confusing for me, i'm expecting to hit rolls and it really makes it hard to focus
they aren't bursts they're all hands like if i could turn off colors i would to make it more enjoyable rating seemed fine to me it has some tricky stuff, personally it took a ton of control and focus for me to get it and felt as hard as an 80 to me Last edited by ilikexd; 08-4-2013 at 11:43 PM.. |

If you didn't use the N's Farewell from this current batch, I recommend you fix that.

I don't really like some of the transitions in Chipscape but other than that it's fun.

Re: Songs of the Week (Aug 4, 2013)
Eze and I agreed on 80 last night after we both played through the file once, but I just replayed it again a few hours ago and bumped it a few notches down after songs were live. It's got some nasty one hand transitions and minitrills, but I really don't think it should unlock Scarhand. (sorry Eze, wanted to talk to you first about a rerate but didn't want to risk Scarhand influx on this...the colored bursts are really easy to get around and the rest doesn't feel FGO to me)

Re: Songs of the Week (Aug 4, 2013)
as posion said a ton of transitions had me really nervous, im surprised i actually got an aaa because i felt so inaccurate. still rating is ok.
down with the sickness - could be better could be worse. i was a bit disappointed that the vocals were only stepped in part of the breakdown since it's the most important part of the song. but everything else seemed nice. n's farewell - opinion: i'm not a fan of slow grace note piano files as they are awkward to hit especially for beginners. not much to say. it's alright though. withcraft - fucking awesome. i love the hand usage and i wish hand usage were a bit more liberal in general in files especially when it matches the energy of the song. |

Re: Songs of the Week (Aug 4, 2013)
chipscape owns
down with the sickness was really boring, glad I sightread it n's farewell was okay, should have went easier on the grace notes and I think halving the bpm would have made the file look a bit better, great song tho witchcraft was awesome, jack usage was way fun and layering was pretty spot on

Re: Songs of the Week (Aug 4, 2013)
N's Farewell illustrates a big problem with a lot of piano songs that are being submitted to the batches lately.
- The gallops are two notes at max. Some of them are stepped as three notes in that file, and then stuff like this happened: The mix of hands and gallops from the close placements in the .sm file make it impossible to tell whether or not the file was meant to be hit as actually gallop bursts or jumps. If it was meant to be hit as jumps, then it should have just been stepped as jumps. If it was meant to be hit as gallops, the converter does not care. It's unfortunate a nice song like this had to succumb to more awkward color note playing with mixed note placements. Many piano files being submitted are like this too. If something is supposed to be hit as a gallop, don't use ridiculously close intervals. If something is supposed to be hit as a jump, just step a jump. The converter does not care about the author's intent. Every stepper needs to keep this in mind every time they place color notes. Every time something like this happens, I patiently have to wait for whenever there is a jump placement in notes, and then it just becomes awkward. |

Re: Songs of the Week (Aug 4, 2013)
I'll be honest, I much prefer Rebound's Witchcraft.
Also Dossar, I say this is the nicest way I can... But you obviously didn't look at N's Farewell close enough; there is a difference between the two and three note graces. On top of that, it's irrelevant if the converter doesn't care because there are numerous people on the site who know how to apply frame fixes. On top of that, that's because we convert them from one file format to another in the first place. You're gonna be terrified if / when Our Final Mourning [Standard] hits the game. That chart make's Silvuh's charts look rather tame in terms of grace notes. This assumes it doesn't get jerked around forever in the batch like N's Farewell did. Quote:
It is very relevant to step something either as jumps or gallops because if a stepartist purposely neglects this important part, then your file becomes a mess after conversion and the player can't tell if it was supposed to be hit as gallops or jumps. Also, stop saying "nicest way I can", I know you talk smack in skype chats all the time |
