Re: Beta Engine: R^3 [Updated 4/13/13]
Feature request - hard judgment: reduce the perfect and late good window by one frame.
Instead of (late to normal): Normal: (boo)/good/good/perfect/amazing/perfect/good/average/(boo) let's try: Hard Judgment: (boo)/good/perfect/amazing/good/average/(boo) It goes down from 7 frames to 5 frames, which is a nice reduction. However, the timing window is uneven in the perfect area. It would be kinda fun to have a slightly tighter timing window, but it would be a lot more feasible if the timing was in milliseconds instead of frames. Still - it would be kinda neat. |

Not quite sure why you want to get rid of the perfect after the amazing, as I'm sure in SM you can still get a perfect after a marvelous.
EDIT: Or before it, I think I read your thing backwards. |

The uneven perfect/amazing window seems awkward though, which, as you realised, is why I noted that FPS changes would make it a much better feature. Perhaps if you hid Amazings it would be less of a problem. I sometimes wonder if I subconsciously use Amazings to get a feel for the center of the timing window, but maybe I'm overthinking it and they're actually useless to me. It's not a difficult feature to implement, I could throw it in soon if you'd like. How would you suggest it interact with score saving? Is it something you'd just use for fun / practice or would you feel frustrated if it didn't save the score at all? I ask because although there's no real reason to not save the score, there might be technical reasons that make it a bad idea (replays will be inconsistent with the saved score, mainly -- not sure if this matters for things like server-side or manual score verification). Quote:
Unrelated, but I never really understood why there's an extra good frame instead of, say, a late average. It's really only useful for trying to BBB or something. Though it's probably saved me a few times, I often doubt my fingers (for good reason), reflect on whether I pressed a key properly and still manage a late good when I try to re-hit it a second time. Of course I often double-hit or just boo it too late... This is why I never FC anything, boo so often, and my boo counts are usually equal to my misses >.>

If you do decide to implement this, I wouldn't mind it as a silly customizable feature (like an option that lets you constrain your timing window from default, all the way to making anything that is not an amazing give you a boo and a miss). That would lead to some funny challenges and attacks I'm sure (like only having the average window available to hit, or the good windows, or perhaps swapping the judgements around, etc). That would be quite fun, and I would probably mess around with that quite a bit. As for scoring, it would be really nice if such a thing could give GTS (and credits, by extension). Although perhaps replays of songs cannot be saved, or even better (if possible) R^3 could remember the constraint as an option and play that replay with those constrained settings.

Re: Beta Engine: R^3 [Updated 4/13/13]
It's really difficult to constrain the timing window with an uneven frame length for the full window altogether, haha. With the window being seven frames, and the perfect window being three frames nonetheless, it's pretty hard to get things to work right. It's not really intended to be helpful, but just something to be kinda fun/challenging. It isn't the best idea with the current timing system, though.

I don't think he's being sarcastic. Being able to index anything you know about a file is good as long as there are different search parameters built within the engine.

As for the frame stuff, yup, I forgot to consider that making it asymmetrical would throw off one's sense of timing a bit. Still could be something to do for fun, but overall is rather awkward without higher resolution timing.

Truly sorry, I was just stupid and read it completely wrong lol. I dunno. Can i make it up to you through make-up sex? You can even be the botanist this time when we role-play.

Re: Beta Engine: R^3 [Updated 4/13/13]
A while ago I suggested a system where people could actually rate charts from 1 to 5 or something. Never happened of course, but it could be a neat idea to put in someday.

Re: Beta Engine: R^3 [Updated 4/13/13]
We can kind of fix that by normalizing people's ratings like they do with the judgment system. And if we set up a system where a lot of people will rate files - put the rating system in the engine, maybe give a credit for each song rated - then we will have enough data that any trolls will get smoothed out.

Re: Beta Engine: R^3 [Updated 4/13/13]
You could also just do a personalized rating system, that only affects yourself. Similar to the favorites genre, but you can give each file a specific rating (1-5, 1-10, 1-99, etc.), that you can sort the files in the overall song list area, similar to difficulty, name, etc.

Re: Beta Engine: R^3 [Updated 4/13/13]
is it possible to add a refresh button for extra engine playlists? as it stands right now, i think the only way to get newly added songs on the other engines is to erase the list and re-add them all

Odd. On my engine it automatically updates. I don't seem to have this problem, nor anyone who has used it.
