Re: Top 3 Video Games EVAR
There are so many great games which are great for completely different, sometimes mutually exclusive, reasons, that I don't think choosing just three does any justice. Also I definitely have to give bonus points to any really experimental (for their time) or groundbreaking (for their time) games as well.
Also I see far too much newschool and not enough oldschool (yes some of you posted oldschool) It's far easier to name three best systems for gaming, so here goes. 1: Nintendo Entertainment System -- if you disagree here, you're either newschool or just plain wrong, lol 2: DOS 3: Super Nintendo Entertainment System 2 and 3 may be swapped or replaced with others/etc... I really want to put Gameboy in there too but don't want to knock the others off. I guess if I absolutely have to list three games, I'll stick with NES games. 1: Battletoads 2: Mike Tyson's Punch-Out!! 3: Bionic Commando ^--Again this doesn't do justice at all since there are many more excellent games each for different reasons. |

Halo 2 is the best Halo IMO. Do you still play on XBConnect?

If I were to recommend the three most enjoyable video games ever to my friends, it would be:
1) Rocket Knight Adventures 2) Super Metroid 3) Gunstar Heroes |

Re: Top 3 Video Games EVAR
This is really hard (I could easily make a list of, like, ten games that deserve to be on my top 3) but here goes...
1) Super Mario 64 2) Banjo-Kazooie 3) Earthbound

Just downloaded a Gamecube emulator. Now I can play all of the great games that I was stupid enough to sell years ago.

The NES contributed to the evolution of gaming, maybe more than any other console, but unless a person played it when it was new, they're almost guaranteed not to enjoy playing it now. Not even Mario 3. Don't forget how old the PSX and N64 are. Games like the first Suikoden weren't dreamed up in 2009. They were SNES-era, believe it or not. I get the feeling a lot of the stuff you see as newschool just isn't. Not anymore.

You know, I find that the best games are the ones we grew up on. Some of the first games we ever got or played really were the ones that impacted us the most. At least, thats what happened to me. Am I wrong?
Like, I guess how many of you have one of your first games ever played in your top 3?

Re: Top 3 Video Games EVAR
I definitely wouldn't say my first game was my favourite, but I did grow up playing Ocarina of Time. Although I wouldn't say I placed it as my favourite because of nostalgia. I've played it over so many times throughout the years there really isn't that much of a nostalgia factor anymore. Although I just started a Wind Waker file today, and that definitely had a lot of nostalgia.

Re: Top 3 Video Games EVAR
I think people who say they enjoyed the nes system are masochists or trying too hard to sound cool. 95% of the games that were on there were hard as balls (and if you're of age to play them, you'd be really young), and the other 5% were jap titles we didn't get.
LoZ, FF, DQ, and Duck Tales are the only ones I can remember legitimately enjoying, and not just playing because goddamn it how dare you make me die over and over again fuck you mega man!!! |

Re: Top 3 Video Games EVAR
But see, I grew up with NES, and I loved the hard games. Call it masochistic, but I liked losing at games as long as I was doing better than the last time. It felt like actual progress once you got even a little bit farther sometimes, and beating a game was a real accomplishment. Also back in the NES days we considered the real standard of difficulty to be "Arcade-Hard" whereas now most people consider "NES-Hard" to be the ultimate standard.
For those unfamiliar with the arcade era, most arcade games were not even beatable -- the best you could do was get farther or get a higher score. And most times if there existed both a console game and an arcade game, the arcade game would be considerably harder. |

Re: Top 3 Video Games EVAR
There's good hard and bad hard. The NES had a lot of games where you could do the same thing every time and get different results, that were just retry bait for no reason.
Endless modes are love though.
