Re: New Hacked Scores thread
What happens when two accounts on a given IP address have vastly different skill levels? From what I'm seeing, if a player gets a rank 1 on a song, then the other player gets a rank 1 on song, regardless of the score difference? I'm not quite understanding it.
EDIT: hi Rainbow Dash |

Re: New Hacked Scores thread
If it's known with absolute certainty that two accounts on the same IP address belong to two separate players, this 'ghosting' system wouldn't need to implemented. I'm working under the assumption that the vast majority of accounts created on the same IP address belong to just one person, which is why only one score should truly count on the high score boards. If two accounts on the same IP are both separate players, then yes, two scores could appear on the high score board.
Perhaps a system like this could be implemented to work for every IP and then manually overridden by an admin that knows for a fact that there are several players on a certain IP (e.g. Sky Kitten/prongsie) Yeah it's a bit of work but it pretty much solves everything imo Last edited by Tegtegtegtegtegteg; 09-1-2011 at 11:15 PM.. |

IP's vary for every user like there's no tomorrow. Few people have a static IP.

Re: New Hacked Scores thread
How many IP's are logged for the average user? I'm assuming most active players play 90+% of their games from one IP address

Re: New Hacked Scores thread
Then how about accounts that are known for a fact to be alts of good players (VC+ AAAs) are just thrown into this system manually? There really aren't that many right now and it wouldn't take that long to do when/if the code is written.
Some people could just be fags and keep creating accounts over and over to troll the admins with more work, but nothing's stopping you from IP banning them :o) |

Re: New Hacked Scores thread
If a system was put in place where people could set that the account was an alt, and these accounts weren't included in rank calculation, would people use it?

Re: New Hacked Scores thread
I'd use it if the ranks were "ghosted". Like, I could see my own personal bests in my own level rank, but those ranks were never recorded to the global leaderboard viewable by everyone.
Otherwise... Why even bother making an alt. Just play while not logged in. |

Re: New Hacked Scores thread
That's not what I'm saying the system would be, the person on the alt would still receive ranks for scores they get according to what the current scoreboard for that song looks like, their score just wouldn't bump anyone else down. That's why I called it 'ghosting'.
The name of the alt would never appear on any high scoreboards but the player would still receive the rightful rank for playing a song. No one's levelranks get fucced with. |

On the "ghosting" crap, what zeroskill said. I thought part of this discussion was to see how to "prevent" players from hacking the scoreboard, not find ways to temporarily satisfy those who have 239489023 alts or those who want to "test" or abuse crap. |

Well, the details of the system can be tweaked later when the system is added.

Re: New Hacked Scores thread
A good system would be to inform an administrator that you'll have an alternate account. If you don't inform, the account will be banned. Simple as that.
Also, what is with the "You gotta figure that once you've AAA'd the majority of the songs in-game, it gets extremely tiresome playing the same 20/50/100/whatever# of songs over and over again in an effort to improve those ranks" statement? This gives the implication that there aren't enough hard songs ingame, and the hard songs that are in game are basically just improving by a few less goods at a time. This is a really poor excuse to make alternate accounts that are also bumping down others' ranks - which is why the "alternate account approval" system would make everything so much simpler. Anyone that's paid attention to the alternate account problem has noticed that people are constantly trying to figure out who is who. Getting approval of an alternate account first would prevent all the hype about "wtf who is this person jacking up ranks and shit" and would prevent excessive score abuse. |
