Learning Doubles on Stepmania
I know there are a couple of you who have mastered doubles play on Stepmania. I am just getting started. I have incorperated an 8 finger spread setup to try and neutralize one finger per arrow.
It goes something like this Left pad left-w down-e up-r right- space bar Right pad left- right arrow key down-numpad 7 up- numpad 8 right- numpad 9 digits i am using go in order from left ring finger to right ring finger (ring, middle, index, thumb is on space bar, right thumb on right arrow, index, middle, ring) Has anyone had success with a similar setup or can tell me a better one? so far I can fc light 1 and 2s, but have only been playing for 2 days? did you find that you had to relearn everything, and does this affect your singles play at all? thanks. |

LOL OMG I was so confused LOL
I thought this was a thread on learning doubles on pad. There are more patterns to learn and habits to get used to to. Alas, it's a keyboard thread. I've never played doubles on keyboard, sorry bro. I think it's just one handed but harder. |

Double is really hard, and I don't think there are so many charts. If you master this, you'll truly be an SM god. Solo will be easy for you then most likely.

I have a slight edge over most because i also play piano. also, Xia, do you have any proof, or was that a joke post? I have seen Izzy do it, as well as others on youtube. It would be harder to develop muscle memory usuing less keys. |

Re: Learning Doubles on Stepmania
For a short amount of time I tried doubles, and it is DEFINITELY a difficult thing to get used to, or for that matter, even play remotely close to decently.
Not all keyboards are the same, and the setup I used might not respond for you, but I did: ASDF / HJKL with the index through pinky on each hand. I was able to play some easier standard charts from Izzy's 8-arrowed pack when I played, but even still it was pretty difficult to manage. I would try both your pinky and your thumb and see what is better for you, I personally think the thumb would be harder to coordinate compared to the pinky for more complex files, but it might be different for you.

Re: Learning Doubles on Stepmania
We need more 8 keys, it can easily be used for 7-key IIDX mode

also, speed wise right off the bat I can tell my thumbs can hammer faster then my pinkies (retarded appendige.) Not much difference right now, just preparing for when i take over the world. Last edited by ddrmaniacaaa; 03-10-2011 at 05:35 PM.. |

I generally hammer with my arm and not my wrists, so maybe that is why I can use my pinky versus a thumb.

Re: Learning Doubles on Stepmania
That was a serious post, btw. Try downloading the BCMPs if you think solo is too easy.

Re: Learning Doubles on Stepmania
I tried 8k for a while. No one steps 8k (heck, there aren't so many 6k files), so if you want more than 6, go for bms. Besides, considering stepmania has chord cohesion, 8k is just too much.

Re: Learning Doubles on Stepmania
Yes, the jumps have been the hardest thing to get used to. Able to AAA PFC 4s and 5s now on judge 4. Feel like im getting the hang quite quickly. Just felt like doubles was an entire half of the game that most people dont get to.
