Starting Video Tutorials, looking for topics
I intend to release videos that will help starting simfile authors make better charts.
The purpose of this thread is to discuss the format of the video, and what topics people would like covered. Format Copyright A big issue I've noticed, posting StepMania videos on YouTube, is copyright. I'll see someone have a video of them playing a song, so I'll assume it okay and do something similar, then mine gets taken down. This needs to be done in a way that doesn't have copyright issues. Audio What should be heard during the tutorial? Should I be speaking? Should there be music playing, and people learn through text on the screen? Let me know what you think would be best. Topics Just tossing out everything off the top of my head. Feel free to suggest anything. Stepping - Starting a file from scratch (Where files go, etc) - Choosing a good song - The different types of patterns (Candle, crossover, footswitch, jack, spin, etc) - Mine use - Making a polished file - Submitting to FFR - Preparing for ITG use Sync - Global/Machine Offset - Getting a proper BPM/offset - Rounding errors with stop overuse - Handling songs with changing BPM - Classical songs Tricks - Basics: Slowdowns, speedups, stops - Stop-streams (Double BPM, have a stop every note) - Negative BPMs - Combo holds Recap - Copyright issues? - What teaching style (Voice, text, etc), and what audio should there be? - Suggested topics?
