Re: Third Style Intro Progress
Just seems a little to dramatic. Very high quality work though.

Insert text here
SO ****ING DRAMATIC Definitely pull it back a little, bro. This is a simple arrow smashing game, not a scifi war epic. If they're painting third style in that dark and serious style, that's fine, but maybe take a cue from similar games that have come before. Have a look at how DDR, ITG, Beatmania, etc. have handled similar cases. Basically, I guess, if you're going for a darker aesthetic, I think you should start with a more typical light aesthetic but bend it to darkness... if that makes any sense.

Re: Third Style Intro Progress
http://vimeo.com/16514242 - added a little more.
It's pretty much just those swooshes that's going to make everything feel super dramatic, the music is also just temporary until they give me the music they're going to be using for the game engine, which would probably tone it down a good amount. Having it be dramatic catches your attention, draws you into it more, which is what this is being designed for. Eye-catching, attention-grabbing advertisement. Also note that the "darker" theme won't stay as is, I don't usually add in backgrounds until the end of animation. In it's current state you're dead on about it all, though. Re: Third Style Intro Progress
Agreed with it being a bit over-the-top. Looks very nice visually, though (I actually think I might start using Vimeo after looking at the file size of your video in comparison to the quality!).

Re: Third Style Intro Progress
vimeo really is pretty awesome, but they only let you upload 1 HD video per week as a regular user, all the others get downgraded to web quality. You should download the video, it looks so much better at full 1280x720p HD.
Over the top is definitely not a bad thing when it comes to advertisement xD |

Even so, vimeo's web quality looks better than youtube's. It might just be me though.

Re: Third Style Intro Progress
I don't think it's over the top at all, I think it's perfect. It captures the epicness that is to be ThirdStyle. The only think I like would be for the Thirdstyle logo to stick around even longer with the swishes across, I think it's still a bit too fleeting.

Re: Third Style Intro Progress
Yeah, I don't think we see "ThirdStyle" enough during that first purple flash

Re: Third Style Intro Progress
Yeah it's dramatic, but not overdramatic for it's purpose. If it was plainer then I wouldn't have acknowledged it as deeply as I did for the way it is now, and an advertisement needs to be capturing like that.
Pretty good so far.

http://vimeo.com/16522578 Update.
Seems pretty unanimous that the wave in the beginning needs to be extended a bit, I'll do that tomorrow. Not sure why but my camera shake keyframes got messed up and it's not jittering now on the swooshing "third style dot com" part. Will fix that too, among other things. |

Re: Third Style Intro Progress
These people really don't deserve your quality of work.
Unless they are paying you of course. |

Re: Third Style Intro Progress
Nah, not being paid, I just do it because I love these communities and I want the experience. I make really decent money as is, not in it for that.

Re: Third Style Intro Progress
Just saying "Once a great game, Born again" doesn't sound like it's going to bode well with many die hard FFR fans =/
That sounds more like a slap to the face if anything to Synth.....

Re: Third Style Intro Progress
No one on TS really cares about what people on FFR think. It's why I'm not going into that community. This isn't to take away what certain people have done: Isak's engine is pretty damn nice and these preview videos are great looking too, but I'm just not up for the people over there.

Re: Third Style Intro Progress
More so referring to the DDR franchise, but ok.
Synth needs a slap or two anyway xD The text is all temporary anyway, unless they give the ok on it, then it stays. I love FFR just as much as the rest of you, not trying to step on FFR's toes. Last edited by darkshark; 11-5-2010 at 06:35 PM.. |
