So My Test Scores Came In
---------SAT (1st Time)---------
Reading- 630 Math- 690 Writing- 610 (Essay- 8) ---------ACT (2nd Time)--------- ---------Composite Score 31--------- English- 33 Math- 33 Reading- 25 Science- 31 Who has the best scores here? I live in Georgia, and I'm still not sure whether I should go to UGA or Tech. We (Georgians) have a thing called the HOPE scholarship which takes care of tuition 100% and all it requires is a High School GPA of 3.0 and a maintained College GPA of 3.0 |

HOPE is $1000. Let's get that one straight because sometimes it just isn't enough
Weird that you're deciding between UGA and Tech! Do you know what you want to study yet? |

Re: So My Test Scores Came In
I have:
800/800 Math 790/800 Verbal (fukken blackflagged the SAT) 800/800 Writing 800/800 Physics 800/800 Chemistry 800/800 Math IIC 800/800 Literature 36/36 ACT 179/180 LSAT (lol law school blackflag, which is a hilarious waste because I chose not to go to law school) I was really tempted to retake for the 800V, but it would have looked really bad from an admissions standpoint. 36 ACT corresponds to a 2400 SAT anyway. I found the ACT easier even though the material was harder, imo. It's less reliant on gimmicky tricks and moreso actual problemsolving/knowledge. Leonid could probably beast these tbh. To the OP: Your ACT dominates your SAT. A 31 ACT corresponds to a 2040 SAT, but your SAT is 1930. http://www.loveland.k12.oh.us/lhs/gu...sionScale.html Most colleges will superscore and take your highest.

Re: So My Test Scores Came In
I got 790 on math and then ****ty on everything else because I didn't really try. I got stuck on one problem at the end of a section, and figured it out with about 10 seconds left, but didn't have time to actually do the computation so I just guessed.

Re: So My Test Scores Came In
I got a 33 on my ACT (would have done better, but my writing got crap scores probably because I decided to be offensive in my story). Don't remember what I got on the SAT, though I do know I aced the math portion.

I got perfect score on grammar part (surprise lol), but I failed on essay writing, so I couldn't get 800 on writing portion lmao |

Re: So My Test Scores Came In
The essay portion is so formulaic, it's almost disgusting. Write like 5-6 paragraphs with proper grammar and spelling, including an intro and conclusion paragraph with like 3 supporting paragraphs that tie into your thesis. It's almost impossible to get lower than 10/12 on the essay portion if you do this. I recommend tying in the following subjects: History, science, literature, personal experience (you can make these up if you want) since there are countless examples within those categories that fit any subject the test puts forward.
aka. Just write a lot and don't screw up the grammar and spelling. Fill up all the space you're given. Variegate your sentence lengths. Just write well. Do well on the grammar part too and you've got an easy 750+. There are no curveballs on the grammar portion because, well, it's English. That test will throw the same "grammar errors" at you every single time.

Re: So My Test Scores Came In
The problem with standardized testing is that it's... standardized. The sum total of all you learn in high school may or may not coincide. You wouldn't take a hard test in your high school without going to class/studying, would you? Taking the SAT cold is similarly risky. The best way to study is with old tests and the right books. The best material = old SAT exams. But if you want the closest **** to what you're going to get: Barron's is good for SAT Math IIC and nothing else (The books Sparknotes has for Math IIC is excellent too). Princeton Review is great for Physics/Chem. Old SAT practice tests are the best for the actual SAT, and I wouldn't recommend using ANYTHING else to study with. You can get all this **** at a B&N.
