Re: Driving Manual is such a pain
I will do my best to never own an automatic as long as I live. You just don't get the same response/power with an auto.
Only problem for me was the speed... I like to go fast any way, but manuals just make it that much easier. 3 tickets (2 speeding, one parking violation) in 5 years of driving. I got them all within a 3 month timeframe -_-. And I also bought a stick before really ever trying it. There *is* a difference between knowing HOW to drive a stick, and being ABLE to drive a stick. I've known how to since I was 6 or younger, actually being able to put it into practice was quite fun. |

Re: Driving Manual is such a pain
The clutch just broke on my piece of crap 1990 subaru legacy last weekend so now I'm car-less for a little while. Riding the bus as a senior in high school is no fun.
I was very reluctant to drive manual at first, but I can't stand automatic anymore. haha

Re: Driving Manual is such a pain
hah.
I do valet parking for my job. From time to time we get manual cars in there. I am completely able to, but there's something else. Every manual car has a different sweet spot. Do you know how annoying it is trying to figure out where it is just so you can move the thing into a parking space. Especially if they park on the one side of the door where you have to go over the incline to get through. Why couldn't they have just pulled ahead 10 feet before stopping and getting out? There have been a few really nice ones though. There was a regular a while back who had this really nice BMW. It was a really wide spot that was really easy to hit.

Re: Driving Manual is such a pain
Once you get used to it you won't roll back when going up hill. You let the clutch out to around that sweet spot then quickly go heavyish on the gas and let the clutch all the way out a little faster than usual. Also after about a month it won't be a hassle at all to drive. As soon as I hit 3KRPM I pretty much automatically switch gears. Just keep in mind to keep your car in neutral with the clutch out whenever your stopped or you're going to kill your clutch.

Re: Driving Manual is such a pain
Once you start driving manual it feels really weird to driving an automatic car.

Re: Driving Manual is such a pain
Not really. I was driving manual when I was 13 or so. I now have an Automatic car and I prefer it over standards. 1996 Dodge Neon, 91000kms.

Re: Driving Manual is such a pain
Yah well those other things can cause many problems. Like crashing your vehicle. I read in a magazine yesterday that driving and texting raises your chances of crashing like 2300 percent. I couldnt even believe it but thats what it said.

Re: Driving Manual is such a pain
Breaking news: Driving on the freeway blindfolded increases your chances of crashing 99999999% (it would otherwise be infinity but there's always one asshole who lucks out in the test trials, sigh).

Re: Driving Manual is such a pain
23 times more...not that much at all considering what you're doing but I gues 2300% rather than 23 times more looks a lot more intimidating.
