Better At Stepmania Then FFR?
I'm trying to figure this out, and I'm not too sure if it's just me, it might be though, but is anyone else really good at Stepmania, but is only about 75% of that when playing FFR? For example, if I play a level 10 or 11 song on FFR, I'll get about 3-5 miss, and around 100-200 good - depending on the song - and the rest are perfect. (I'm not the best on here, be quiet.) But if I play the exact same song in Stepmania - step charts and all - a few days later, I'll FC it with around 25-50 good, give or take.
Does that happen to anyone else? |

it's not just you, it's everyone.
you generally have to be a lot more skillful at FFR than SM. SM is not very demanding whereas with FFR you have to contend a lot more with lag and lower frame rates and such. |

Yes! I can AAA molto, FN, GGC and bf one minute waltz on SM but I get like 5 goods on FN, 20-30ish goods on GGC and like 20-30ish goods on one minute waltz in FFR.

Re: Better At Stepmania Then FFR?
FFR accuracy windows really huge while on stepmania they are pretty small. Should be the other way around.

Re: Better At Stepmania Then FFR?
It often depends on which game you start first. SM teaches timing but does not force people to cope with lag or poor framerates. FFR teaches adjusting to lag but does not emphasize accuracy enough.

Re: Better At Stepmania Then FFR?
Omg I know exactly what you mean, im pretty much a beast on SM, AAAing a whole bunch of SM songs is easy, but on FFR I can't seem to AAA anything.
idk why people say play Stepmania to get better at FFR..I just don't see it happening. (Yes, I play on judge 4)

Re: Better At Stepmania Then FFR?
stepmania is easier for a number of reasons
one is the higher frame rate and also higher sampling rate; in ffr both keytaps and notes (even visually) are snapped to the nearest frame, making it harder to smoothly read patterns, especially ultra fast ones where the quantization is more obvious two is that there is more feedback provided to you; with the higher frame rate alone you see the notes more often and the judgements faster, but in addition to that stepmania provides a far richer range of judgement levels, especially marvelouses three is that every single file in ffr is about a frame early because of the way the perfect window is skewed

I started with FFR, then went to SM to play more songs, what took me at least half my member time here to get - skill wise - I surpassed in SM in like, a week. |

Edit: I think FFR is easier because of the scoring, it seems to be slightly different, plus the huge accuracy box |

Re: Better At Stepmania Then FFR?
That's why there are much more insane things on stepmania. However the pass/fail thing is much different. It's FAR easier to pass a song on ffr vs. stepmania.

Re: Better At Stepmania Then FFR?
i started with ddr then ffr then stepmania last and in my opinion everybody is better at ffr because you cant mash your way on SM like FFR and thats why more people play this. because you can mash to victory and get like 1000 boo's ddr and sm take real skill. however i find reading arrows and patterns harder on ffr because its crammed together and a smaller screen and sm is a bigger screen

Re: Better At Stepmania Then FFR?
and one more thing if no one said this yet. stepmania teaches you to be more accurate. while ffr doesnt SM you have to deal with getting marvelous ffr is jus perfects, on top of that you have to deal with lag and the frame rates
