I'm glad that you at least believe that an outbreak is happening. I somewhat understand that it might be unnecessary to turn off your PC--but you said it yourself, I'm not sure what's going to happen when it's activated. I'm just being overly safe. Better than sorry, in my opinion.

No, because after 3 years of surfing the internet, downloading things from torrent sites, and connecting to P2P programs, I have still not had a single virus. My computer has no anti-virus software installed, and never has.

It's another dumb virus / worm scare. I don't care what day it's for.

Sorry, but I find that impossible to believe. But hey, congrats on not getting infected.

Hey--like I said, if you choose to not protect yourself, it's on you. If you make it through with nothing happening, well, that's awesome. But if something does in fact happen to you, it's gonna be pretty bad that you chose not to heed any warnings.

If you don't have antivirus software, how do you know you haven't been infected?

Viruses aren't like the stuff you see on TV, green text doesn't start scrolling up your screen while your computer beeps at you. Viruses of today run silently in the background, logging your keystrokes and intercepting packets between you and websites. They send the information away to a database where people buy your information for pennies.

Regarding the April Fool's day 0-day: it's a common day for these worms to activate. Why? For exactly the reason you're laughing at it. "oh, it's activating on april 1? **** that, then, it's probably just some joke."

lmfao, I am actually reading the "HOW DO YOU KNOW?!?!" argument.

Right, you're right, I don't know. My computer pretty much never has illegal operations, troubles connecting to the internet / displaying web pages, etc etc, but I don't know if I'm infected, you're right. For all I know, somebody has been selling my information for the last 3 years.

Except I haven't gotten anything in my email address (and I'm talking my actual email address, not the stupid little email address I make to sign up to places) for the last... I dunno, 3 weeks? Yeah, inbox EMPTY. Not a single shred of spam. Not even a relative. Nobody emails me, period. I'd check my bank statement but - guess what? - I don't have an account.

So yeah you can run the paranoia "HOW DO YOU KNOW?!?!" act, but it's lame because if everything is working fine and I'm not being harrassed in any way (FYI I see a pop-up once every month or so, usually after uploading something to Imageshack after a while), who really cares if I'm "infected" with something or not?

I thought the whole point of this was a worm that was going to eat your computer. I have never been infected by anything that even sends me spam email or pop-ups so uhhhh I don't really think "selling my information" (which is my email address) is a big issue.

EDIT: TC Halogen, hey, congrats on not believing me. Although I don't give a **** if you do or not.

All I'm saying is don't treat this like a joke. This is serious; a LOT of security professionals are extremely concerned about this worm, they're saying it's one of the most evolved, complex pieces of malware in a long time and they don't know what to do about it. If someone isn't sure what the whole concern is, and they see people like you just spewing "nah it's a joke whatev lolol" all over the place, they relax. They don't bother performing a check that takes less than 5 seconds and then, guess what, the botnet just got one unit larger.

Like we said before, it may be hanging dormant in your system. How do you know? You don't, at least not without AV protection.

"Who really cares if I'm infected or not?" Well if you don't, then no one else should.

And by the way, thanks for expressing your opinion/disbelief of my opinion so maturely. [/sarcasm]

Am I the only one wanting to see a bunch of slave machines being turned into a gigantic botnet to wreak havoc? If the figures that newscasters are giving is true, it could pack a serious punch. It seems pretty amusing to me.
