I'd say I'm protected; does a firewall count as protection, anyway? Well, I love how it blocks everything unless I specify which sites are safe. Then again, I may be just protected by a bunch of lies. Lies and a hopeless life. Go figure.

edit: I was wrong and so are you, it does not say 6% of AMERICA but rather America accounts for only 6% of the total global infection, so the amount of infected boxes in the US could still be high

yeah, I doubt what your dad opened was the worm in question, I haven't read anywhere of it coming as an attachment. Sounds more like he opened a virus to me. And your laptop could very well still be infected you know ;D then again this whole thing might not be anything at all but it could too so Idunno.

Why? Because it's going to happen on April Fools Day? That's exactly what they want you to believe, so that you stay unprotected. Like Syhto said, we'll see who's laughing tomorrow. But, as long as you are protected, hey--maybe you'll be ok.

Me? Well--I'm unplugging my router tonight before I go to bed, and I told my parents not to plug it back in for at least a good 24 hours. All of our AV's are updated, and I patched my computer with the newest Windows update. Still, you can never be sure.

In any case: take a look at this to see exactly what may happen.

EDIT: Taken from Microsoft's website:

What part do you perceive to be ignorant? People ignoring the fact that this could potentially damage their computer? Or the fact that people are making a big deal?

You know what. I'm turning all of my computers on, plugging all of my removable devices, and disabling all of my anti-virus and firewall software. We'll see who laughs then.

The fact that people are mocking it and saying it's not dangerous. No one except the designer right now has ANY idea what's going to happen when this is activated. All these people talking about turning off their computers are dumb, that's not how a 0-day worm works. All these people talking about "I'm safe because I never open attachments" are dumb, that's not how worms spread.

People, simple check: go to avg.com. Does the site load? If yes, you don't have the worm. If no, you have the worm. Go here, or send someone who IS clean there to download the tool for you. This **** isn't a joke, it's very easy for these people to get your sensitive data off your box if you're infected. It's very easy to get infected.
