One.
Hi all,
Quick Question. Is FFR meant to be played with one hand or two? I've been playing with one hand I cannot manage the more difficult songs. I just can't believe anyone can do them with one hand |

Re: One.
You can choose any play style you want, one hand or two hands.
I typically use one hand, I've been playing like that for a while. But most of this site plays with 2 hands, otherwise known as spread. |

Re: One.
You mean with one hand?
I can play Challenging songs when I'm h.. oh, you did mean hand? Well, it takes practice. It took me like, a month to get decent at spread (and I still suck). |

Re: One.
2 hands doesnt mean spread, but spread is your best option since it provides a huge advantage over every other style.

Re: One.
FFR is meant to be played with your feet. Get a PS2 -> USB connector, plug in your pad, config your arrows, and play.
Duh.

Re: One.
Two hands can and can't be spread. It depends on how you map the keys.
As for me, I play spread.

Re: One.
I played one handed for a loong time then I finally made the switch to spread... Once you learn it you'll never go back. Also try speedmods they make deciphering (sp?) fast arrow patterns much easier.

Re: One.
I am a one-hander. You should do whatever is comfortable. No matter which style you pick; even if it IS one hand; you CAN get good at it if you practice enough.

Re: One.
i used to be a one hander, i could pass any song in the game, and could AAA lvl 7 songs...then i switched to spread...i havent AAAd anything better yet but i have definately improved, i can PA streams easily now etc etc.
if your playing for fun do whatever is most comfortable. if your playing to get better, play spread.

Re: One.
Perhaps someone should direct this new user to the faq showing the different styles. I'm eating lunch and typing one-handed (lol) but heres a quick guide... (where is destiny when you need him?)
2 hands: normal* left, down, up and right arrow keys. spread* other keys assigned to the normal values. for example - s,d,k,l in place of the arrows, creating a 'spread' out version of the arrows. 1 hand: As far as i can gather, the one-handed players on this site vary from 3 fingers to 4 fingers (never heard of a 2 finger player, but anything is possible). On a variety of key configs and finger-key allocations. Hope it helps. Pm if you need the link to the faq, (i'll have a look for it after lunch )

Re: One.
FFR / Stepmania weren't designed by their makers to be played one way or the other (as far as I know; you'd have to ask them for the actual answer). However, I can tell you that many people that design the levels for FFR are playing spread, testing their files with spread, and writing their patterns for spread. So, their levels are more or less meant to be played spread. Meaning you'd be wise to play spread.
Impressive for a one hander, but honestly I could halve my speed mod and AAA VDs without screen cutting, so it's a moot point.

Re: One.
But if I remember correctly, she still does that every now and then.
And why does no one bother mentioning Index, using the two index fingers of both hands to play? Then again, I'm strictly spread, myself, so~~~ I only play one-handed when I'm testing songs and I have good arrow keys to use. (laptops are not the best arrow keys around, especially ones that are like, half the size of regular ones. @.@)

And I guess you're right about that. Never really thought about it in that way. Never started index, tho, so I would've never immediately thought of that. xDDD
