Any Tips?
Playing "spread" just feels really weird to me and makes the game hard.
I don't really know how else to play. Also, on really fast runs with jumps.....how in the hell are you supposed to do that crap? |

Re: Any Tips?
There are a lot of different styles. There's index, spread, one hand three, four, or two fingers, pinkies only, and etc.
For the latter, practice. Just play things you can understand and when you have that down, try things you don't. The technique just starts coming to you. Really you should just keep practicing spread, better in the long run.

Re: Any Tips?
you dont HAVE to play spread, i am a one hander. one handing makes PA/jumps/jumpstreams a lot easier, but you limit yourself to how hard the songs you can do. however there are some one handers who can AAA lvl 10s/11s. i am currently the 10th best one hander, and if you want to have a go at one handing, i would suggest checking out this thread: http://www.flashflashrevolution.com/...ad.php?t=95819
there is also a layout called 'Index' this is where you use both your index fingers around the arrow keys. some bad things about index is that you cant do hands (3 or 4 notes at once) and it does get a lot harder when you try hard songs, but if you keep at it, there are some very successful indexers out there. altrnately, you can keep with spread and just practice, practice, practice. it may be hard starting off, but its the most rewarding hand style.

Oh, and yeah, one-handing absolutely does not make jumpstreams easier. Absolutely not. |

Ah, I see then. I just figured that if you were going to point out the strengths of a one-hander, you'd go with jacks first... not jumpstreams.

Re: Any Tips?
i mean when your starting (like he is) one you get good at spread, PA becomes a lot better than most one handers. but if your just starting out, with spread, your left hand can be a lot weaker and your PA can be off, but when your one handing, your using your right hand which is your proper hand and makes PA a lot easier. (speaking as a right hander). again, jumps are a lot easier being a one hander when you are beginning for the same reasons as above. im not saying spread/index jumps suck compared to one handers, im saying, when you start out, its easier. Zybanthia: Ah, I see then. I just figured that if you were going to point out the strengths of a one-hander, you'd go with jacks first... not jumpstreams. Jacks arent always easier, it depends on how good people are at vibrating (when its really fast jacks), when its slow, yeah i guess one handers are better, i kinda forgot about jacks when i made that post

When I started spread, my skill level sky rocketed immediately. Once I found a comfortable key setup, within 10 games, I was crushing my previous scores. I remember before spread, I had 25 Goods on Thinking Different. Within that first hour of playing spread, I knocked it down to 8 Goods. At this point where I am now, after a lot of practice, it's pretty much a guaranteed AAA 8/10 times. I showed no real dominance in any particular hand, so I don't know what you mean by that. My left and right hands were equally as good from the start. To the OP, I'd stick with spread. Use a key setup like ASKL, or QWOP, and see how you feel. If it's not for you, then it's not for you. No worries. Last edited by foilman8805; 02-1-2009 at 02:41 AM.. |

Re: Any Tips?
Do whatever feels most comfortable for you, I always say. I play with both my hands on the arrow keys, so apparently that's not really "spread".
*ninja'd* by Gizmo, and apparently he plays in the same positioning I do |

Re: Any Tips?
i guess its different for everyone. i started as a one hander and ive been a one hander for ages, i decided to have a go at spread and my best FC is a lvl 6, with horrible PA, i know it takes practice, but right now, im sticking with one handing.

Re: Any Tips?
im taking by the fact you just AAAd platypus that you are not a newbie.
i find it hard to believe that somone who has been playing for 0 years and has played 41 games, has AAAd platypus, you are obviously on an alt, or you had somone play for you.

I just say stick with spread because you already started with it. I play one handed myself.

Re: Any Tips?
Or he has Stepmania experience, but why would anyone think of that? Let's default to having someone play for him.

Be careful what you say because these kind of assumptions can make things ugly. It's best to just keep your mouth shut and not remark on someone's join date because half of the time it isn't pertinent to someone's ability to push an arrow. Last edited by foilman8805; 02-1-2009 at 03:12 AM.. |
