I'm just reading the 7th book right now. It's alright. But I personally don't grovel for Harry Potter like many of the other fanpersons.

The final cvhampters where one of the most engrossing parts or any harry potter, but the book had an awkward pace. There where some chapters where nothing even seemed to happen.

If they spend more than 15 minutes of film time on camping, or less than 45 minutes of film time on the battle at Hogwarts, I will have to burn down the movie studio.

Battle of Hogwarts can be put into film and last about 10 minutes. 15 is pushing it.

Y'all seem to forget how important the camping scenes were. They were planning their next moves in those tents. They weren't just roasting marshmallows.

They were wasting way way too many pages. Time Lapse it if you have to, but if we have to sit through that many conversations about not knowing what to do, I'll walk out.

So what you're saying is that every single part of a "war" is either action-packed or one side knows every single detail about the other?

No, PBT.

What he's saying is that in literature, dull and repetitive parts of books shouldn't have every single detail filled in, but summarized then skipped over to save the attention span of the reader.

What I'm saying is "Given that the movie has a maximum length allowed in which to cover all of the information, I really hope that they spend as little time as possible on the portion of the book where the characters are simply moving from campsite to campsite, and rehashing the same discussion a half dozen times, so as to be able to do justice to the scenes that have a lot more of import happening, and would be more enjoyable to see converted into a visual format"

Thanks for giving me more detail. I understand now.

The staff of the movies usually skips over parts they consider unimportant.....which isn't always good >_>.

But that scene IS important. It indicates that Dumbledore didn't leave them detailed instructions on what to do and that they really have to use everything they've learned in the last six years to figure out how to beat the most powerful man in the world.

VERY IMPORTANT, I'd say.

yeah squeek you're right

wasting time boring the audience and cutting time that could be used on interesting aspects is an excellent way of making a point

The book was pretty good up until the ending... everything felt really rushed, I dunno, it was pretty anticlimactic to be quite honest.

I usually have that lingering feeling after finishing a series know that's the end of it, but I didn't get it with this.

All I'm saying is that it was necessary in the book.

Which means it SHOULD be in the movie, if only for 2 minutes. What I'd do if I were the director:

1) Play a musical score over these scenes
2) Show them setting up the tents, fade into:
3) Them talking, arguing, etc. But the musical score overrides their dialogue, so you just see them saying stuff. Body language, if you will. Fade into:
4) Them sitting around doing nothing, fade into:
5) Disapparating to a new location.

That all would take thirty seconds. With variations on the scenes each time such as location of cameras within tents, actor emotions during discussion, etc., you could bend this out for a while and show it enough times to give the idea that they are stuck figuring out what to do until they catch a break.

I only found the last few chapters to be the most engaging.

I thought that The Battle of Hogwarts was very well done, actually. (I will never shake the image of McGonagall leading a pack of rampaging desks out of my head. I found that so very amusing.)

The part where Dumbledore explains Harry's first death (at the train station) didn't seem like a good enough explanation. It kind of bothered me.

Also, the epilogue was alright. It's nice to know what happens afterwards, even if it's totally incomplete.

Rowling had a webchat a short time afterward. It can be found here.

She says that Teddy is not a werewolf, but merely a Metamorphmagus like Tonks, if I remember correctly.

In book 7 they say that you can't transfigure anything into food, you can only make more of it once you have it.
but in previous books, Mcgonagal transfigures her desk into a pig
why couldn't hermoine just do that when theyre in the woods, then kill the pig
