How to get mental help?

I was wondering what other places I could ask this in... and ironically, this is the most suitable. If this is in the wrong forum, I appologize - did the best I could.

I've been having some real-life issues, and I'm considering getting help about them. Thing is, though, I don't know where to turn. Psychologist? Therapist? Counsellor? Who should I look for, and how can I get a hold of one?

The phone book is a good place to look. I'm sure you could look up any of those terms and get some results. Maybe google search your area for them?

I've had a long history of trouble with my mental disorders. I've been through the whole ring of psychiatrists, therapists, and psychologists. I've taken medications. All the damned psych profiles and therapy sessions never did a damned thing, and they were expensive as all hell. The medications took away about 4 months of my life during which I had long periods of amnesia, severe mixed states and the blackest manias I'd ever felt. It all ended when I tried to kill myself by swallowing over 200 anti-psychotic pills at once. After three days of talking to imaginary people and being almost unconscious, I regained cognitive ability just enough to realize just how far down the spiral I'd gone.

Then I realized that medication and therapy and all that bull**** is not the way. I decided that I would do it alone, that I would deal with myself.

And you know what? I'm that much stronger for it.

Talk about it to the person you feel most comfortable with to make it much easier for you.

Check into a mental hospital? I wouldn't think the first place to post about your mental problems would be on a dance simulation forum. =/

Into a mental hospital? Jesus Christ, no. Not unless you're on the verge of suicide, and even then, maybe it's just best to go ahead with it. I consider it preferable, personally.
