Re: Jobs at 16 (help. very specific)
If you want a small car, get a Smart Fortwo. Costs less than 20 grand with most of the options (12 grand is the basic car) and gets upwards of 50 miles to the gallon.
Hell, subtract the cost of this car from the money you intend to spend and you can get it painted like the car in the Wii commercials and hire a Japanese guy in a business suit to say "We would like to play" to random people. As far as jobs.. really can't help you there. |

With $30k, it's possible for you to pay 2-3 years tuition in college, depending on where you go and the aid you get. That saves you tons of student loans, and future debts hassle that you'd normally experience. With a car, you could just crash it; there goes all your money.

Re: Jobs at 16 (help. very specific)
Seriously you sound so god damn spoiled to me. I don't want to be mean but wtf a 23K harp? The only people who need 23K harps would be if you were freaking so talented you play in the best international symphony or whatever and are a millionaire.
Also you don't need a 30K car. Seriously when you get it you will be 18. My first car I'm going to drive will be my moms 'Ford Focus' then eventually buy a Smart Car when I'm in my 20's after I can pay for university to save money on gas and eventually the car will pay for itself. If you have the cash buy a car thats half decent but not a car that's better than your parents. Also getting a job of that degree at your age (which is mine) and with out experience you would have to be some fairly insanely talented kid which without proof I will doubt you are. I had a job at some shitty Italian restaurant and when I told them that I have to go on vacation in a month they trashed me. I applied for places in the winter and still no offers because I am inexperienced (and really I turn 16 at the end of the summer). Now I work at my dads for $7.50/hr and its back breaking work. Today I swept the shop up and the dust was 3 inches thick in some areas. |

Re: Jobs at 16 (help. very specific)
Agreed with what everyone else has said, but if you want some real advice on making money...
Get your foot in the door at a restaurant. You will start off getting a crappy position most likely, but if you stick around long enough and do good work they will train you to be a waiter, and that's where the big bucks come in (tips). Once you spend a while there, you can potentially move up to a nicer restaurant. Expensive food = high tips. But don't expect to work at a place like that until you have the experience. That's probably the best bet you have for making good amounts of money at a pretty young age. You won't get near enough to buy that crazy car, but if you work hard you'll get a well-padded wallet. The weddings are good for a quick boost of money, but you really can't count on that for regular income unless you have serious connections or are well-established in the.. wedding-music market (?!). People don't just get married constantly around you, and when they do, they tend to go for the gold and hire established musicians for their fancy parties. I understand that you can get one now and then, but don't count on doing it most weeks of the year.

Re: Jobs at 16 (help. very specific)
What you have is a professional grade harp. You can buy band grade harps which is pretty not the same just made out of cheaper material and they sound hardly different and a harp...probably about 5K.

Re: Jobs at 16 (help. very specific)
Why on earth would you want that car?
Anyways, you might not want to purchase a car that expensive. Because I highly doubt you'll save every single penny you get, it will take longer then you are expecting. Either work for a longer period of time, or get a less expensive car.
