I need help (Computer tech)
My computer has been dead for over 9 months now and I didn't know how to fix it/didn't have the money/was lazy the whole time until recently. The problem started with the power supply slowly dying which caused a chain reaction where the mother board and CPU fried. I replace the PSU, motherboard, CPU, cooling fan/heat sink, and tower today. So I had to take everything out of one computer and switch it over to the other pretty much building a new one. BTW, putting on thermal paste sucks.
Anyways I've been working on this since 6:30 pm central time, and now it's 11:19 pm and I've hit a dead end. Everything it put in place, motherboard is wired correctly, etc. But when I hit power I get a notice about the new CPU and to change the settings in the set up. I don't know how to do that, so I was wondering if anyone could help me with that. Putting that problem aside, I can hit F1 and bypass it which loads up windows. Once windows loads I go to start up my profile. While it loads, it stop with an error saying I need to active windows before I log in and gives me an active button and a cancel button. When I hit activate another installation looking screen comes up. The screen says "Windows has already been activated." and leaves me with an OK button. When I press it, it takes me back to the login screen repeating everything I just said about activating windows. Can someone help me?

Re: I need help (Computer tech)
I would recommend reinstall windows completely. Which version are you using? Where do you get the notice about the CPU? In the bios, in windows? Where? It is a bad idea to use your old hard-drive that has windows on it with a new system. (Without reinstalling)

Re: I need help (Computer tech)
Ok. Well, I'm going to assume that your processor is compatible with the motherboard since it loads up. To configure it, you need to go to your bios settings. It should be like F12 or something, it says either in your BIOS manual or onscreen when you first boot it up. I have no idea as to why you need to do that, perhaps you could tell us what your mobo, proc, memory ect is.
Concerning the Windows, you have to provide what version it is, how you installed it, and where you got it from before I can help with that either. |

Re: I need help (Computer tech)
I reinstalled windows and now I get issues with my sound card. When I try playing Stepmania I get this "Couldn't find a sound driver that works".
I don't know what sound card I have, but it came with an emachine T2825. I guess I have to update my drivers, although finding out what drivers is the problem. Anyone willing to help? Hah..

Re: I need help (Computer tech)
1. right click my computer
2. click manage 3. Click device managers on the left 4. look for a question mark. That should be your sound card if not 5. it is under sound, video and game controllers Search Google or go to the manufacturers website to get drivers. |

Get a Mac. Then you won't have problems like this.

Re: I need help (Computer tech)
Well I had the same error using StepMania 4.0 on my computer. All I did was went to C:\Program Files\StepMania CVS\Program and used tools.exe. Under the "Change Preferences Tab" I used the "DirectSound Software" for Sound API.

Reconnect your IDE cables and check your BIOS settings?
