Astral Projection. Not even a DJ, but they make some great stuff that lies in the DJ category.

Oh, and Aphex Twin. God, does he rock.

"Astral Projection. Not even a DJ, but they make some great stuff that lies in the DJ category. "

Either you mix or you don't, and if you don't mix you aren't a DJ.

I really liked some of Oakenfold's mixes.. He did a lot, if nothing else, to further the scene for other DJs like Tiesto. I've said this before, but it is something most people disregard. I believe without Oakenfold there couldn't of been a Tiesto. It is arguable Oakie did more to further expose electronic music than anyone before him, and just because Tiesto cuts better, that doesn't necessarily make him better. I'm not ragging on tiesto, just most of his sets halfway through I stop enjoying them..

Rappers today rap faster and more complicated than say, Run DMC did back in the day, but no one argues that Run DMC is just as good, if not better than 50 cent, or jay-z, etc.

A lot of the best DJs I've ever heard are underground, just like musicians. I remember listening to a "history of rock and roll" set, and I couldn't believe that Black Dog by Zepplin actually mixed to Smells like Teen Spirit so well..

While I'm honored that you guys think I should be on this list, I'm not quite sure as to why. I'm just going to guess you haven't heard many DJs.

Personally, my favorites to hear new sets are DJ tera, DJ kontact (both are DnB djs), DJ Christopher Lawrence (hard trance), and Goa Gil, who mixes Goa. ;. Oh, one more, probably the guy who made me decide to mix.. At a house party, years ago, his name was DJ Max Alert. He spun hard trance / techno. He was jumping all over the place as he did it. It was so fricking awesome...

SpookG, your stuff is really good, don't get me wrong... I enjoy alot of your stuff, (DnB is damn good.) but the majority of your music has a similiar ring to it... which is good and bad at the same time. It's good cause you have your own sound, but it's bad cause there's not a ton of variety in your songs. . . have you ever tried to expand somewhat?

Course, it's easy for me to be critical; that's effortless. That said your music is still good - just needs a bit of variety. . . (there's no way to say that without sounding like a heartless prick.) although your old website with all the quotes is hilarious.

On an unrelated topic (actually getting back the related topic...) DJ Gabry Ponte is pretty good, even if a bit melancholy. I'm not sure if he's a DJ either, but SGX deserves to be on this list.

Chicane has done some good Djing as well (Don't know his actual name.)

a lot of people on FFR don't realize that I am the same person as FGJ! (that just sounded weird), so they know spook as the dj...and the fgj! as the artist...but eventually the connections are made... i hope...

and ive had the good fortune of seeing DJ Shadow live several times. Every time was awesome.. ;D
