Does any one know the best play and record software to make a step file.
I know what you thinking.
"Why would you use it, your songs will be out of sync!"
Well i just want it for my personal use so can anyone tell me or show me a link

SM is the best. Period. If it's not working for you, you're not doing it right.

Get X step, put in the BPM/Gap, export to dwi, stick the DWI file in the song folder in your SM songs folder in a group folder, start up SM, hit edit/sync songs, and choose the song you want to make.

Simple.

1 is left arrow key, 2 is down, 3 is up, and 4 is right. So yes, you can only use the top number buttons to put in steps. While playing, you can use whatever you want. Just go into options - keyboard options (or something) and set it up how you want. It works in the stepping thing too.

Ok so I went in the edit /sync song things I loaded the song i started with one I had already created. Then i push ctrl + R and it just plays the song! What am i doing wrong?

Who said anything about Control+R?

To play the song you're stepping as you step it, hit escape, and select play whole song.

Or press spacebar at the beginning section you want to hear and the end of it and then press "P"

You have to put in the steps first. You can't put in steps as you are playing the song. I don't think they'res any software that will let you do this.

So i cant play the song while making the sim file
that sucks thats what i need all along a program that lets me do that anyone know one

to enter in steps use 1234 but NOT ON THE NUMPAD

Set the BPM using one of the F keys...that desides how fast the scroll rate is and it MUST be in SYNC so thats the bitchy part of it.

So to enter in notes that between 1/4 timing you must press right and left on the arrow keys. it goes up to 64th notes. Also to put in freezes its another one of those F keys
