PSA: Don't do Christmas
You're seeing Christmas swag in stores early because times are tough and corporations need you to have a pavlovian response to spend money. They've literally conditioned us to spend money when you see Christmas memorabilia since before we could even talk, and they want it sooner and not later.
Don't worry about feeding corporate America because a hundred years worth of peer pressure makes you feel guilty for not getting others gifts/"being in the spirit" Take finicial care of YOURSELF this year instead. #SkipTheHolidays2022 |

Radio was also playing Christmas music once an hour last month too. Granted, it was this sorta ironic Christmas-in-July but, but still I also saw Halloween stuff like days before 4th of July at Family Dollar altho in our area that was the extent of it Anyway long story short don't let yourself be peer pressured |

Re: PSA: Don't do Christmas
It's been a routine thing year after year that we don't set up a Christmas tree but celebrate it regardless. Why? Because:
a.) it's a lot of work to set up & take down a tree and people are lazy. b.) trees (both artificial & real) are expensive, and have been getting more expensive. No reason to shill out the money for one when it can be used elsewhere. |

Re: PSA: Don't do Christmas
Was in hobby lobby the other day, they've got an interesting mixture of Halloween, fall/Thanksgiving, and Christmas stuff all through the store lol.

Re: PSA: Don't do Christmas
Typically stores set holidays up about three months out, it actually makes sense if you're seeing some stuff early / about now.
Dunno if I agree with the idea of skipping Christmas because corporate because TBH if you only align it with gift giving /receiving you're doing the holidays wrong imho. I'm still gonna enjoy the holiday as I always have. |

Re: PSA: Don't do Christmas
Wait, are you implying that multinational corporations exist and operate not in the interest of the consumer, but rather their own bottom line? Please do regale us with more of this extremely novel information!

But all I want to really express are just two points: •Don't feel pressure into overspending, you don't have to prove your love to your love ones every holiday season •Don't feel bad if your love ones don't do shit for you this holiday because they probably just can't. Let people opt out without pressure Sometimes you got to acknowledge the basics to help build to the point, man. |

The intention is a little less take down capitalism or whatever and more "Put yourself first" at the very least. EDIT: this isn't to imply I'm suddenly not angry at the pressure corporate America and society at large likes to dump on people, tho.
