Laser keyboards
Has anyone ever tried a laser keyboard to play FFR? And if so, are they good to use or is it really awkward?
I feel it would be like other keyboards and everyone has different preferences, but it would be cool to play on different material or something |

Re: Laser keyboards
iirc it's a lot harder because laser keyboards have no tactile feedback aside from your fingers hitting whatever you're projecting the keyboard to

Re: Laser keyboards
I always kept thinking about things like this because when I playtest songs in DDream to see how the patterns feel like to hit, I can move my fingers faster than usual.
Don't presume that instead of a keyboard, you could put a sort of sensor on your fingers, and then use a camera to read the sensors (whether it's marker, tape, etc) and respond to keys almost like they do every '______ plays pokemon' stream? Last edited by gold stinger; 12-25-2014 at 06:31 PM.. |

Re: Laser keyboards
I don't know too much about them, but do they split if you have a divider in the middle? That would be really fun to experiment with, have one hand above the other or something.

Re: Laser keyboards
Iirc there's latency issues with them. I remember someone on here trying one out

Re: Laser keyboards
Latency issues, and problems properly registering each tap when you get to stuff like 35+ hits per second, would definitely by my biggest concerns.
No tactile feedback could be good and/or bad. My guess is if I were playing just directly tapping on my desk, my speed could be a little better but my accuracy would suffer a lot. Just a guess though.

Re: Laser keyboards
having played rhythm games on mobile phones i can say that no tactile feedback isnt as big of an issue as you might think. accuracy also isnt an issue because you feel when you hit the surface.
