Noob Alert (help?)

So, I've read through the stickies on where to download Stepmania and where to find song packs and change speed mods. However, I cannot seem to get it to work for me.

For starters, Stepmania will give random errors saying that some file is missing or whatnot. I've noticed it does this when you select the music folder, and when you exit the game.

None of my songs are being loaded into the game. I have them saved under songs/allsongs/packname. What am I doing wrong? They were zip files so I extracted them to another directory. Do I need to be using a program like winzip or winrar when extracting these files?

I downloaded this on a whim of nostalgia, but it's causing me quite the headache trying to figure this out. It has been so long since I've used this, and much longer since I had to mess with those pesky settings. Any help would be appreciated

songs need to be under songs/packname
you've got an extra folder there

you don't necessarily need WinRAR, but it is a lot faster when downloading a lot of files
