One 6 AAA and one 7 AAA (which felt more like a mid-high 6 anyways) over here, with a handful of FCs, and no even remotely close 8+ FCs.

But "bragging" aside, that's the thing about competitions...

There's no way to disable the backgrounds, as that's what contributes to the authenticity of the file.

Best way to deal with those BG files is to probably use noteskins on Velocity's engine...
