I need to know what's a good USB adaptor for hooking up a pad. I'm already assuming that a CF pad is the best pad to buy for playing on. Mucho thanks.

well, most metal pads already come equipped to plug into the back LP1 printer port. If you want a good usb adapter though the best one is http://www.buynshop.com/productinfophp3/VG-PS-USB2X1
It's custom made for DDR, so you know it'll work. I havn't tried it but unless they're flat out lying, it should work fine.

cf does not come automatically equipped to plug into the back LPT1 bort. It doesn't come automatically able to plug anything except a ps2....

I use a redoctane usb adapter. It's ok, but you have to use an annoying code to get it to work right before you play. Also for pump it doesn't like the down right arrow very much, and makes it spazz out when you hit it.

Problem with those: The pressing buttons to fix it up to work. Not looking for that. I'm looking for one where you can press left and right at the same time without having to do that.

I suggest going to www.stepmania.com and looking at their adapter compatibility page....

EDIT:their adapter page seems to be down. well, good luck!

The thing says "BNS DDR v3.1 Dual Player USB Converter for Playstation/PS2 to PC USB converter (Support DDR Combo Moves)"

does that mean it woudnt work for stepmania Alpha 3.9 ?

by the way the USB Adaptor part on stepmania.com is Not working at the moment.

Special instruction after install (For Dance Dance Revolution)
Please remember to Press Start + Select + Up arrow on the dance pad to finish setup the dance pad (for 2 seconds)

THAT'S the problem guys. It'll hook up to the computer, but the pressing of those buttons is something I DON'T want. I need one that when you hook it up, you DON'T need to do it, for it has done that already internally.

Now can someone actually give me something good please?

I have a good USB adapter and it requires that.. what's wrong with that? You only have to do it once anyways per reboot.

If you look at a cobalt (https://host156.ipowerweb.com/~cobaltfl/sunshop/index.php?action=item&substart=0&id=1) flux, you'll see that there is no start and select button. If you make your own, there is no start and select button. That's the thing I'm going for, because it works REALLY well.

dude, tsuteto, I have a cobalt flux. And it has a start and select button, they just aren't on the pad, they're on the connected box. It really isn't that much of a hassle.

EDIT: of course, if you are building your own, that would be a problem. I know two of my friends have adapters that don't require the code. I'll have to ask them what they are.

*ahem* My USB adapter has the Start and Select buttons on them. My metal pad doesn't have them on it either..

EDIT: Oops, talisman said it for me =)

Ah, that would be why. Thanks for the help guys. And talisman... that would be great if you could figure that out. I think it would be overall cheaper to build my own pad.

It is, slightly. If your still looking for a good adapter, Radio Shack has some. The one they have in my town doesn't fit my pad but if you can find one it will work. You'd still need to have a driver for it. I heard of a website that you could download a driver but I don't know the url. I think it was driverdirect.

I actually think I found one, but we'll see. All I know is... this is just hell on a stick.

Is this a decent adaptor? I'm looking at in ebay but the brand is not listed, but I think its the "Super Dual Box." According to stepmania.com, recent models are compatible.

Also, it comes with 2 DDR pads that say "Stay Cool" in the middle. I'm thinking they are from Nami because of this article (http://www.8bitjoystick.com/archives/jake_review_naki_ddr_dance_pads.php) I read. Are those compatible?

*points to the two dates of the last two posts* Way out of date, but still, nice to know you at least went somewhere in the back and posted something on topic.

There's a good thread at the cobalt flux site, though I still haven't been able to pick an adapater based off of it. Link: http://www.cobaltflux.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=2649&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=0

If your still looking for a good adapter, Radio Shack has some.
Radio Shack adapter is not at compatable with dance pads. it wont map the axes to buttons, so you cant hit up & down or left & right.
I got mine at www.lik-sang.com. they have a chart of which are compatable with what.

Alright, enough. This thread can start dying now.
