Possible FFR Rebirth Project?

it's not a special event, i'm one of the many users that come to FFR - me leaving isn't going to do anything but slow down posts in the forums slightly

but yeah, i'm narcissistic enough to say that i'm leaving the forums after DF's 6th custom tournament, so it's out in the open

I thought the new engine was a rebirth project of some sort? It would be weird to make an advertisement using our current engine, then one month later have the new engine come out.

Honestly i think every post here should be used at some point in time. Also i think there should be a point system so as to perma ban anyone who goes over say 10 points per month. this idea would keep most people acting with some sort of restraint as to what kind of crap they can pull before paying for it.

Technically vBulletin already has that. You can enable infractions, and when a user gets, say, 10, they can get banned for a specified time.

Since we're focusing on a renaissance in the community instead of just new bells and whistles to add to the site itself, I'm thinking that the FFR "sample pack" on Kongregate that went up before the big crash needs to be expanded and updated. Seeing as I've seen ads in brick-and-mortar game stores like GameStop for the site, this hardly seems like a bad time investment.

Of course, to do so we'd need to get the green light from Tasselfoot, who uploaded the original one, and I don't see that going smoothly.

You never see that "digging through old posts" shit happening or all the massive trolling that happens here over on those sites, and when it does happen, the users get punished with reason. - host more events that involve the community outside of the forums; advertise tournaments with larger prize pools on the front page to get more and more people involved - this will cause newer users to trickle into the forums and more involved with the community just so as long as people are willing to be nice to newer communities

A big problem with tournaments is prizes - a lot of guys are just sitting with millions and doing nothing with the credits lol.

- break elitism in a lot of different things, such as segregation of skill levels (which was a good idea in theory, but worked out horribly with people trying to steal the spotlight at the top of the chain), simfiling, etc.

Again, this has to do with the community trolling itself and being distrustful. Vocamania and SMO has done a great job dealing with elitism because they have nice communities.

I personally think the rules could use a revamping. The forums should feel like a safe and relaxed place to post without having to worry about exact ban lengths for really specific things. KBO for example doesn't go by exact time lengths; instead, they go by "warnings, misdemeanors, felonies, permanent" which is basically much more fair. If you can't make reasonable judgments about what you should do to a user, you probably shouldn't be in that position of power in the first place.

Again, reckless braindead trolling that continues on because it's considered "cool". But you have great ideas, I think you're worrying too much about a group of assholes that you shouldn't be affected by so much. There are always going to be negative responses and people who disagree no matter who you are, but a few trolls should not be giving you much stress if you know that you're doing your best.

we could have people have to pay "fines" into an admin account and use it towards tournament. If they dont pay, then they dont play.

Please believe me when I say I have seen WAY worse on another forum. The mods would instigate flame wars, they would TROLL, and then when one person would do something like that it would be an automatic ban for 12 hrs. IF they were going to follow the rules that is. I would see so many flamewars and most of them were directed at me, for little reasons. When people would confront the mods (And even an admin once) the threads would break out in paranoia from the mods in question, and be closed extremely fast.



Anyway, I think we should get the Widget up for Kongregate again. I am SURE people would flock back if they knew FFR was back up. Especially if we somehow got the game featured.

:\ I don't even think Tass would care if someone took the API and modified it, or even created a new one. Someone should get on this. It would be the first feasible step for getting us out there again.

Too bad this will never happen because A) the FFR staff will not appoint multilingual people to mod said forums or other areas of the site, B) they also want to enforce this "English only" policy which will defer non-English users from joining and C) they don't really care even though it's been suggested literally a thousand times that they do.
