Just a little observation; your lighting doesn't match with the atmosphere on the planet. I would erase parts of the shaded areas with a big brushed eraser.

The stars in the bg aren't very realistic either. They kinda just look like auto leveled noise.

Otherwise, Great start on your journey into the abyss!

lol about the abyss, but yeah, creating lots of realistic stars would take sooooooo loooooong, and I guess I could do it one day, if I'm working on a masterpiece or something, right now I'm just working on planets and nebula type things, thanks for the input though

you should consider atmospheric lighting
light source is white, atmosphere is probably never going to be white since what it does is block out sections of spectrum.
I am guessing it would be a shade of red in this case?

Cool stuff in this thread.

Since I haven't made planets I'll contribute with some galaxy art (a fractal made in Apophysis).

Hey, that's pretty cool, I used to do some fractals myself, but never applied them to my art or anything...

Try working with different sources of light than lens flares

Not that they look bad, but they do all look similar. Other than that these are pretty damn cool
