Gruntilda's Lair [24 or 29]
When i was working on AAA'ing the 24 section. This song took to many tries. I personally feel that it should be bumped a fair bit to about a 29. Now this is my first suggestion so feel free to correct me.
Looking at the song its self. Its 97 BPM, which is slow. Most of the notes appear in 12th stream. But the are a good deal of bursts (7 of them) that songs of this level shouldn't have. (See pic for reference) Now lets take into account not one but three different 32nd trills. That's a 194 stream trill (for lack of better reference). It amounts to 12 nps. Oh, and it has 1 hands note. Not that other songs below this don't, it is worth mentioning. ^^ Legacy at 1.8x ^^ The next song that comes close to this is Infinite Blue(24) with 12nps, and that also feels a bit harsh for this difficulty. It only has a 16th stream staircase at 164, The next song i see is a 27 [Flight of the bumblebee V2], and a 28 [Two Sisters] which start to break that 12nps barrier, with the exception of 4F73R M3's ending (14nps). Many songs up until 28 are closer to 9, 10, or 11nps. Comparing songs that were released close to each other. -------Release Date [24]Gruntilda's 3130 players, 223 AAA's | 7.12% ----------------3/12 [25]Break your neck 3038 players, 238 AAA's | 7.83% -----------1/12 [27]Flight of the Bumblebee V2 714 players, 199 AAA's | 27.87% -6/12 [27]La Cereza Caliente 2534 players, 316 AAA's | 12.47% -------12/11 [28]Subconsciousness 2454 players, 231 AAA's | 9.41% ---------9/11 Clasko

Re: Gruntilda's Lair [24 or 29]
I thought Bodies in the House Next Door has this same problem. Relative emptiness punctuated by WTF bursts.
Anyway, 97 bpm 32nds works out closer to 13 nps, but that burst speed is particularly nasty. Disregarding the intro jump in the example, those 48ths are ~20 nps. That is a DRASTIC spike for a sub-30 if AAAing is the goal. It might just be your scroll speed (1.8x isn't one of the "magic" scroll speeds that have a clean conversion), but the trill pictured also looks very irregular, which won't do a newbie any favors either in terms of learning PA. However, I'm a fan of having low-difficulty songs having hard bits like these because they're teachable moments. It gets the player ready to face more songs with patterns like it. I'll go with 29. Those bursts alone are just insane once you do the math. |

trills look worse than they are i think. i always thought this as an annoying song to AAA, but i dont think it's worth the bump to 29. maybe 25

Re: Gruntilda's Lair [24 or 29]
The bursts and the trill is really tricky, especially for lower-level players yeah. I compared it with a few other 29s and it looks like it would fit pretty nice. Wouldn't mind seeing this as a 29.
He's probably referring to the 0.25x speed multiples, it's smoother for some people if you use a speed multiple of 0.25 such as 1.75, 2 or 2.25. |
