Neat, a new Mute pack. I'll definitely take a look at this and see what the files have to offer this time around -- I wasn't a big fan of the 7th release, but cheers to hoping that the 8th one catches my attention a bit more.

I love your sims. Not only they are technically accurate, always on-sync and fun to play on pad, but you also excellently take care of the graphic aspect. I actually contacted you months ago on youtube to ask for some play tests... we'll see when i'll be able to give you anything finished

And So: man, those 16th runs feel like they last forever. The relevancy to the synth is nice, and the footswitches are a good way to vary up patterns, but it doesn't quite sound like the melody is prevalent enough to use a full stream, especially with you accenting the strongest accents of the melody with footswitches. The chart's patterning/structure is alright, but this is certainly not something I would play more than once because it's pretty uninteresting.

Club Wolf: There are numerous instances of three note 16th sequences that should be four note 24th bursts, and intentionally leaving them as 16ths seems a bit awkward considering the chart has numerous other 24th bursts (see: 65.368, 68.679, 78.610, and 81.920). The 24th trills (and the 24th run at 82.747) make sense with the song, but are a bit sketchy because the synth is 32nd notes with very firm accents on every odd number note (i.e. every 16th). Other than those two gripes, the chart's structure is really nice and is very interesting to play. I love the stops in the chart -- they add a great scoring challenge to the chart and certainly makes it replayable.

Dancingbox: notes at: 37.891 + 38.371, 45.571, 64.771 + 65.271, 72.451, 103.171 + 103.651, and 110.851 in the chorus don't follow the lyrics, which seems to be what you're stepping, and probably should be removed. I am not fond of the song cut because it creates an uneven phrase length (33.691 to 49.051 = 8 measures, but 49.051 to 60.571 = 6 measures?) and sounds blatantly incorrect in terms of song structure. It's clean sounding, but the structure sounds way too off to be considered a "proper" cut. 79.291 doesn't have any sort of vocal there, and judging by the structure for the rest of this phrase, you're clearly only following vocals, so I would remove this note as well. No real thoughts about the chart - I found it relatively uninteresting until the second half, when things finally got a bit more interesting.

Gradius III - Try to Star: Your chart shares some of the mistakes that the Tachyon Alpha chart had, like the drum fill at 20.018 going four notes too far (it ends at 20.851), or the completely ghosted 16th runs at 28.907/51.129 presumably going to a drumfill that simply doesn't exist. The step at 42.805 goes to something that doesn't exist, as the drum fill cuts off at 42.796. Missed 16ths from b268.000 to b271.000 for lower tom hits. Another 16th run that doesn't go to anything noticeable at 82.240 seconds. Remove the 16th at 138.699, because the fill breaks at 138.629. 147.518 doesn't have a drum flourish or any sort of noticeable sound, so change it to 12th notes to follow the guitar. Remove note at 149.810, as the fill breaks the note before it. Certainly not a fan of this chart -- way too many noticeable mistakes, and I'm not really a fan of the structure either. The introduction is really wonky to me, because it mixes representation between the higher power guitar and the chugs with the lower guitars... it's really strange.

Hey There Fancypants: check your rhythms at b136.000 to b139.000 - it sounds like there is a light swing on the second part of each gallop. I'd change this to an 11 because of the amount of turning in the 24ths, and they are a bit long. Best chart so far -- very silly song but the chart is structured very well, has no real notable problems, great patterning, and has a scoring factor to it due to the swing coming in and out.

Idol (Aniko is Pajingu Version): take Matt's chart, remove all of the dumb jumps, switch the rolls with footswitches, and add a few extra taps on the side, and you have this chart. Structure seems very reminiscent of the Tachyon Alpha chart, without the bad jump placement. Fun either way. Not too sure about why there are five 8th notes in a row when the vocals clearly sound like three 4ths in a row, but I won't really question it because it honestly didn't bother me too much.

Jump Error: Chart patterning is great, and what you represent in the chart is really nice as well. Your sync during the slowdown gets slightly off in for a few notes, but you end the slowdown with perfect sync again. Using DDreamstudio along with your past packs (since you are the most consistent and more accurate syncers that the ITG community has), I was able to use your files as data to determine that perfect offset on most machines is equal to 9 ms early on DDream -- after setting the file later 9 ms to view the waveforms as accurately as possible, I am able to see some slight drifting. See the two screenshots here and here. The sync for the rest of the song is perfect. Great chart, though.

Must Have Been A Dream (Riley & Durrant Mix): how long cen u stream niga wat? In all seriousness: long stream + trance = enjoyable. I don't know why, but there's something really great about immersing yourself into very rich trance synths while streaming at this speed forever. The nice thing too is that you're capable of syncopating to just about any desirable rhythm because literally every note at the particular notation is filled. Nothing special about the chart, but I imagine it being the new stamina testing file for not-so-adept ITG players.

One More Time (kors k remix): THAT is what I'm talking about. This is easily the best file in the pack. Good step rhetoric, creative pattern choices, excellent BPM structure that follows the song appropriately, and a kickass song to boot.

SR-388: No complaints. Solid chart, and has some subtle inserts like the double-taps for bass drums at the end of the song, and some repeated taps for repeating pitches in the melody. Didn't like the Tell jump at the end, but whatever, I can live with it considering that the rest of the file overall is good.

Swing 2 Harmony: There's no swing in Swing 2 Harmony - I want my money back. Good chart overall; I especially liked the crossover usage in this file - it represents the melody quite nicely since the heaviest movement accents the highest note. Quite a bit goes on at the end of the file, but it's done in good taste to prevent repetition. This is a pretty tough 9, haha.

Toki (BMS ver): Good pattern choices overall, strong step rhetoric, and like Swing 2 Harmony, good crossover usage that represents the melody's more accented notes.

For a pack preview, this was actually a bit less than I expected from you in terms of quality. There's a few good files in here, but a few others need work as well.

Awesome feedback, thanks. I will be looking into all those instances of rhythmic flaws next time I get to boot up StepMania. I already had a hunch there was some swing going on in Hey There Fancypants.

Hey, I met you at Paul's.

Speaking of Paul's, who's in charge of putting files on the machine. Your files are always fun to play.

Ah, Paul's. If I met you there it was probably three or four years ago so I'm not sure who you are. Brandon, aka Cosmic Pope, was the one who handled custom content on that machine. He doesn't play there much anymore though and probably hasn't updated the content on there in a while. Not many of the Milwaukee and Illinois people play there period; the Illinois crowd plays on Matt or Ryan's machines and Milwaukee people play on mine or at AFZ. If you're ever in Milwaukee, feel free to hit me up and come play on my machine.

Dancingbox: Removed all those incorrect notes that didn't follow the vocals. Also fixed the song cut; not sure how I made that one section only six measures. Weird.

Gradius III ~ Try To Star: Fixed several of the spots you pointed out, though I am keeping the 16th runs at 28.907/51.129 because those "go to" the guitar. Forced, I know, but it's intentional. Cannot for the life of me hear what missed 16ths you're referring to with b268.000 to b271.000; yes, I slowed the music rate down and yes, I have some very nice headphones.

Jump Error: I've never had any problem FA'ing that last part of the slowdown on pad, so I'm just gonna leave it as is for now.

Hey There Fancypants: Re-rated to an 11, which I was kinda intending to do anyway. Decided to leave the chart as is though; I think if I stressed over the rhythms too much in here I'd start ending up with a lot of annoying 64th/192nd swing parts or something. Feels fine enough on pad.

Thanks again for the phenomenal feedback. The pack download link in the first post has been updated to include all the aforementioned changes (as well as revised graphics for two of the files).

haha, it's alright. I was making a keyboard chart for Terror to Terror by sun3 and this actually happened to me, but in a hilariously different way -- basically, I made two one-measure cutting errors in back to back areas, but it ended up sounding a nicely fitting two measure lead into the next section. I ended up leaving it in the finished product! Sometimes hilarious things can lead to good results, haha.

mr. audiophile

I don't have the greatest headphones, I'll admit to that. Nice to see you fix the other parts, though.

Yeah, it would become annoyingly difficult to score on an irregular swing rhythm with a song that slow. I was just assuming you would try to push it to 24ths. Either way, it doesn't matter to me -- it was a great file, and something I would love to play when I get the chance.

I'm slowly playing through this preview pack, but I'm liking what I've seen so far. I'm stoked for the Lovestoned remix and darren styles charts.

Just curious: why haven't you put this up on other sites?
