Re: A to Z...Are you fast?
You're used to typing certain patterns...the alphabet, being an awkward pattern, is hard as hell to do really fast.

Re: A to Z...Are you fast?
They redefined mashing. Where's that clicking one, Phynx got like, 121 on that in 10 seconds. His hand vibrated.

Re: A to Z...Are you fast?
Let me put it this way: you can type real words really fast because you're used to them, but not fake words (i.e. the alphabet) unless you mash random crap.

Re: A to Z...Are you fast?
Unless you do this over and over again, it's all reflexes. You have to think of the next letter coming up and type that 26 times. When you're typing sentences, you have to think of the next word coming up and you're usually given a little more time to react because words take longer to type than single letters.

Re: A to Z...Are you fast?
You have to have a methodology. So develop patterns that you can do for certain strings of letters, and then when you perform the entire pattern correctly, you get an ungodly time. (I myself have only gotten 4.something, but I'm working on it). For example, I have a method whereby when I start I can get A-F within an instant. GHI and JKL follow soon after, then MN and OP. From there I start to fall apart, mainly because I haven't practiced the last half yet. But it will come soon...

Re: A to Z...Are you fast?
Sprite, here's what I did to get the 2.2 second one :
I hit A and B, and then slide my finger up to hit CDE and to the right to hit FGH, then type the rest. (Yes, it's stupid, I don't care. XD) Even so--without doing anything crazy, I still can get around 3 seconds. |

Re: A to Z...Are you fast?
I can get 2.9. And i am an average typist. All you have to do is - do it over and over and eventually for fingers just know where to you and you will get a lucky run.

Re: A to Z...Are you fast?
People keep saying, "do it over and over," but for me when I do this multiple times I get terrible times (5 seconds).
What I do is this. 1) Type in a reasonable speed looking at the screen and not the keyboard. I get about 5 seconds on this and do this 3 or 4 times. 2) I look at the keyboard (of course having the alphabet memorized) I type the alphabet as fast as possible. The hardest part for me is the first part: c-d-e. That string of letters I use one finger for; my middle finger.

Re: A to Z...Are you fast?
They keyboard you're typing this on won't make more than 0.1 of a second difference.
Also, the reason why I say doing this over and over again helps because when you repeat it, your mind will remember the motions for it and it takes less thinking to associate the letter with the key you need to type. ~Tsugomaru

Re: A to Z...Are you fast?
Getting under 5 was really easy, an I only type like 80 wpm. Don't look at the screen, look at the keys. Thought it was pretty obvious but just throwing that out there in case.

Re: A to Z...Are you fast?
Besides practicing a lot, you can always do a slow run, then a run at a slightly faster pace, then another slightly faster one, and so on. Sometimes it helps more than simply hitting the keys as fast as I can repeatedly, which tires me out.
