Never expected this out of an RPG.
So, Tales of Symphonia pretty much blew me away throughout the game. Most of you know this, and most of you also know that I've been playing it a second time through. Well, in all honesty, I quit playing it for about three months due to many MANY new games interrupting the gameplay. Having finished / temporarily lost interest in those games during my vacation, I began up again on ToS.
Semi-demi-spoilers? So, I'm level 93 and just about to enter the Ice Temple for the first time (lolz kthx 10x EXP gain). I really didn't want to play again due to this fact. Once I got to 100, I knew it would be over. No more leveling up, no more strength gains, etc. Which would really make for some boring gameplay, am I right? NAMCO RULES FOR NOT PUTTING A LEVEL RESTRICTION IN A GAME. I love Namco. They always exceed my expectations. So now I'm at the end of the game at level 150 without EVER doing a level-up session and completing every sidequest. All of the minibosses I beat within 2 minutes without any problems. I cleared the coliseum with everybody, including the super-difficult Raine / Colette matches. I cleared party mode including the exhibition match. I beat the DA mini-boss (To refrain from spoilers, ______'s arms). I beat the level 3 SD (Sword _______). I cleared Niflheim, I re-built the destroyed town, I have all the extra costumes, and I only have some really insane sidequests to do before I become the probable first person in the world to 100% this game. At least, the first person on this forum. Here's what I have left. Titles Figurines Item Collection Monster List Wonder Chef Treasure Hunting Maxing out every single stat point. Almost every character has their MAX specialty (HP or TP) and I'm very close to getting their weaker point to full. I WILL 100% THIS GAME ... probably before Moogy ever gets aroung to starting it lolzllzlzlzlzlzlzlzlzlzlz. ~Squeek PS - The entire point of this thread was to brag about the fact that I've gotten to level 150 in this game. I wanted to glorify Namco for not putting a level restriction in. |

Update.
Thanks to clearing Niflheim many many times, I am now level 200 on every character. Everybody's HP and MP is maxed out. I do 4,000 damage just swinging a sword with Lloyd. Casting Genis's highest level magic hits for 2,500 each time. I think I won. ~Squeek |

Wait, max HP and MP but no max levels? That doesn't seem so great....

EB - Defense goes up with levels. So does everything else. And I have an item that heals 3% of my max HP/MP every few seconds. So, basically, I take very little damage (most enemies deal 1 damage per hit) and heal it all back before I even notice. I can't even cast as a mage fast enough to drain my MP no matter how long the fight is.

I don't.
I have 20 hours in on the second game. That's about how long it takes for the average player to 100% Fable. Plus, the phrase "you have no life" is moot, since everybody has a life. ~Squeek |

Um.
Go play Star Ocean. The level cap in SO-SO3 is 255. I would assume it would be the same in ToS, seeing as Tales is originally a tri-Ace production. Or you could play a Nippon Ichi game. My Laharl is level 4700 or so in Disgaea. I have several level 5000+ characters in La Pucelle. And I have characters over level 300 in Phantom Brave near the beginning of the game. |

ToS is not that good of a game. The cut scenes are horrendous, the story is generic, the character's voices are annoying, and thats about it. The Battle system is great, but that alone can't make a game great.

Yes it can.
Ever play Star Ocean 2? |

I played Star Ocean 3.
I didn't like it that much. Not nearly as much as I loved Tales. The character's voices fit the character perfectly. If you don't want to hear them, mash A through the cutscenes. The story rules. Never before have I been so intrigued. Moogy - Disgaea is not my type of game; sorry. I'll see if I go above level 255 if I care to start it up again. I have a save file from right before the final boss. ~Squeek |

The story in ToS is really, really bland and generic. After playing Xenogears, it's so bad that it made me laugh out loud. All of the characters are uninteresting, annoying retards. Especially Colette, who is the biggest Flonne ripoff ever. She's not even cool like Flonne was (FIRE EYES), just annoying.
And Disgaea is everyone's kind of game. |

Nobody likes Colette. She's the weakest and stupidest character in the game. However, nobody else in the crew is annoying or uninteresting.
I don't know Moogy. I've played many RPGs (minus Xenogears, so kill me) and this was the most original story I've ever seen. I guess you have to play more... how many seals have you unlocked? I mean, the story really picks up after the 4th one. The game isn't even halfway over when you unlock #4, ok? You might just be 1/5th into the game at #4. No, Disgaea REALLY doesn't apply to me. The same way Final Fantasy Tactics or Tactics Ogre don't apply to me. I think our tastes are just far too different. I loved Golden Sun while you hated it. But that really WAS a generic game. I thought ToS would be more of the same after playing for about 5 hours, but it changes so much. Plus, Motoi Sakuraba...can't go wrong with that. ~Squeek PS - I'm slacking off on this to beat Crystal Chronicles. I messed up a bit and am now in Year 6... |

Well, the game does, of course, have good music, thanks to Sakuraba.
And the story so far is "We need to do stuff so we can save teh world!!! lol oh no there are bad guyz betar watch out#@!" I mean, Jesus, it even has the whole village exile thing. And Lloyd is basically every RPG hero cliche ever in one box. There are FAR more original games out there... hell, basically anything is more original than this drivel. However, the game is way more fun than anything should be, so I'm going to keep playing it. Also, you really, really need to play Xenogears. It is the best game ever made, and then some. |

I really, really need to borrow my friend's PS1 and the game to do so. You know what, I'll get on that. I have to see what you're talking about here.
I'm being totally honest when I tell you that it WILL get better. Yes, Lloyd is a cliche, but he's hilariously stupid and linear. The other characters comment on that all the time. After the whole "ARGH I HATE ALL DESIANS TEHY R SOOOOOOOOOO BAD!!!" thing, it gets better. ~Squeek PS - Yay for offtopic? Uhh, I guess I'll level up my people to 255 and see if it caps right now. |

The story is by far the best part of Xenogears. The story in Xenogears tops anything I've ever seen, read, or heard.

Tactics Ogre is a good RPG in my opinion. Their battle set-up isn't the greatest but its not the worse. The story is pretty good and its all based off of what you do and how you progress.
