How come SM anti-cheat failed? I'm out of the loop on this one lol

I had a couple legendary screens from way back in the SMO days...minutes after Keyboard Collab III came out everybody jumped on SMO and we played the entire pack from start to finish, a lot of people came and went but I think there were 25+ ppl in total who played for a while, many of which were really good at the time. Of course, this wasn't 'The Golden Age' of SM as all the ODI ppl used to call what Stepmania was like back in 2003 or whatever. To me they all sounded like a bunch of Vietnam war vets sitting around a card table sharing stories from 'the glory days' whilst simultaneously jacking each other off...but that my friends is another story.
